VFL Sub-Districts
The VFL Sub-Districts (VFLSD), sometimes referred to as the Victorian Sub-District Football League (VSDFL), was an Australian rules football competition played in the state of Victoria and managed by the Victorian Football League (VFL), now known as the Australian Football League (AFL). The competition was preceded by the Melbourne District Football Association (MDFA) and succeeded by the Metropolitan Football League (MFL). The Sub-Districts included a number of "thirds" teams for senior VFL clubs, prior to the introduction of the VFL thirds (later VFL/AFL under-19s) in 1946. A similar competition, the VFA Sub-Districts, also existed at the time of the VFLSD and was managed by the Victorian Football Association (VFA). Kew Football Club
The Kew Football Club, nicknamed the Bears, is an Australian rules football club based in the Melbourne suburb of Kew, Victoria, Kew. As of 2025, the club's men's team currently competes in Division 1 of the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA), while the women's team is in the Premier Division of the VAFA Women's (VAFAW) competition. History Early years Kew was founded in 1876 and won its first premiership in 1880 in the second-rate ranks of the Hawthorn District Zone competition. The McIntyre system, or systems as there have been five of them, is a playoff system that gives an advantage to teams or competitors qualifying higher, by allowing higher qualified teams to lose more games or series before being eliminated compared to lower qualified teams. The systems, which include four-team, five-team, six-team and eight-team variants, were developed by Australian lawyer, historian and English lecturer Ken McIntyre, with the first system developed for the Victorian Football League in 1931. The Eastern Football Netball League (EFNL), formerly known as the Eastern Districts Football League (EDFL) and later the Eastern Football League (EFL) is an Australian rules football and netball league based in the eastern suburbs of metropolitan Melbourne. The Reporter District Football Association (RDFA), also known simply simply as the Reporter Football Association (RFA), was an Australian rules football competition based around the Melbourne suburb of Box Hill. History The RDFA was formed in 1903 by EFG Hodges, the proprietor of the "Reporter" newspaper. Six clubs − Bayswater, Box Hill, Canterbury, Ferntree Gully, Mitcham and Ringwood − participated in the inaugural season. Balwyn Football Club
The Balwyn Football Club is an Australian rules football club located in the eastern Melbourne suburb of Balwyn, Victoria, Balwyn. Known as the "Tigers", the club fields senior teams in the Eastern Football League (Australia), Eastern Football League which it joined in 2007. History Football was played informally in local Balwyn paddocks, until 1910 when Camberwell Council developed farmland which became Balwyn Park. The 1960 VFA season was the 79th season of the Victorian Football Association (VFA), an Australian rules football competition played in the state of Victoria. The premiership was won by the Oakleigh Football Club for the fifth time, after it defeated Sandringham by 60 points in the grand final on 1 October. The season was the first in which Association premiership matches were played on Sunday afternoons, a change which dramatically increased the Association's popularity over the following decades. Association membership The Prahran Football Club was re-admitted to the Association in 1960, bringing the number of teams to seventeen. Sunshine Football Club (VFA)
The Sunshine Football Club, nicknamed the Crows, was an Australian rules football club which played in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) from 1959 until 1989. History Early years Formed in 1938 as the Sunshine Districts Football Club, the club had to differentiate from the Sunshine Football Club that was competing in the VFL Sub-Districts. The original Sunshine went into recess after the 1940 season. The district club managed to remain viable during the war (WWII) competing in the Footscray District League.
