VF-133
VF-133 or Fighting Squadron 133 was a United States Navy fighter aircraft squadron. It was created in 1948 in aviation, 1948 during the reorganization of CAG 13 in which VF-13A became VF-131, VF-14 became VF-132, VF-133 was commissioned, VA-13A became Attack Squadron 134 (U.S. Navy), VA-134, and VA-14A became Attack Squadron 135 (U.S. Navy), VA-135. Most of VF 133's plank owners came from the two VA squadrons. VA-13A pilots had transitioned from the Curtiss SB2C Helldiver, Curtiss SB2C-5 Helldiver to the Vought F4U Corsair, and when transferred to VF-133, had to learn the Grumman F8F Bearcat, Grumman F8F-1 Bearcat on the job. Fighter Squadron 131 or VF-131 was a short-lived U.S. Navy fighter squadron. It was established on 21 August 1961 and disestablished a year later, on 1 October 1962. It was based at NAS Cecil Field and flew F3H Demon fighters. Fighter Squadron 13 or VF-13 was an aviation unit of the United States Navy. Established on 2 November 1943, it was disestablished on 20 October 1945. It was the first US Navy squadron to be designated as VF-13. Operational history VF-13 equipped with the F6F-5 Hellcat formed part of Carrier Air Group 13 (CVG-13) which was assigned to . In June 1944 the ''Franklin'' deployed to Pearl Harbor. On 24 October during the Battle of Leyte Gulf, CVG-13 participated in the sinking of the Japanese battleship Musashi. In early November 1944 following damage to ''Franklin'' in a Kamikaze attack, CVG-13 was temporarily landbased on Manus Island before re-embarking on ''Franklin'' as it proceeded to Puget Sound for repairs.
