Utvær
Utvær is an island group in Solund Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is the westernmost archipelago in Norway. The main residential area on the rocky islands is also called Utvær. It lies on the western side of the Sognesjøen which is the mouth of the vast Sognefjorden. It is about west of the municipal centre of Hardbakke. The entire archipelago is protected as the Utvær nature reserve. Historically, Utvær had a very robust fishing industry and in 1858, the greater Utvær area was split off from the municipality of Eivindvig to become its own municipality known as Utvær. On 1 July 1890, the municipality's name was changed and now the municipality is known as Solund. Holmebåen is the westernmost point in Norway (when you don't count Jan Mayen). It is located on the island of Steinsøy in the western part of Utvær. Utvær Lighthouse is also located in the island group. Holmebåen on the island of Steinsøy is the westernmost point in all of Norway. Most residents of Solund live on the main islands of Sula and Ytre Sula. The administrative centre of Solund is the village of Hardbakke on Sula island. Some other villages in Solund include Kolgrov on Ytre Sula, Hersvikbygda on Sula, and Losnegard on Losna. Utvær Lighthouse
Utvær Lighthouse ( no, Utvær fyr) is the westernmost coastal lighthouse in Norway. It is located in the western part of Solund municipality in Vestland county. History It was first lit in 1900 and it was listed as a protected site in 1999. The surrounding area is protected as a nature reserve. It is located on a small, rocky island about due west of the island of Ytre Sula. The site is accessible only by boat, but guided tours are available. The tall, round, cast iron tower is painted red. At the top sits a light that emits a white flash every 30 seconds at an elevation of above sea level. The lighthouse marks the line of transition between the North Sea to the southwest and the Norwegian Sea to the northwest. The light station was heavily damaged in an air raid during World War II in 1945. Many of the buildings were burned, but the historic tower was spared. Holmebåen is a point on the tiny island of Steinsøy in an archipelago of small islands northwest of the Utvær islands in the municipality of Solund in Vestland county, Norway. Gulen
is a municipality in the southwestern part of Vestland county, Norway. It is part of the traditional district of Sogn. The administrative center of the municipality is the village of Eivindvik. Other villages in Gulen include Brekke, Byrknes, Dalsøyra, Dingja, Instefjord, Mjømna, Rutledal, and Ytre Oppedal. The municipality of Gulen sits to the south of the Sognefjorden and it surrounds the Gulafjorden, which is considered to be the place where Norway's west-coastal Vikings met for the Gulating, a governing body. The area along the Gulafjorden called ''Flolid'' (just east of the village of Eivindvik) is now a national historic place, where an open-air theater and annual summer play commemorates the Vikings who gathered there 1000 years ago to accept Christianity. Fedje (island) Fedje is the largest island in Fedje Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The island is home to almost all of the municipality's residents. The island sits west of the Fedjefjorden, south of the mouth of the Fensfjorden, and north of the islands of Øygarden. The North Sea lies to the west of the island. The main population center on the island is the village of Fedje on the northern coast of the island. The southern coast of the island is the site of the other village on the island, Stormark.
