Uttara Thana
Uttara Model Town or simply Uttara ( ''Romanisation of Bengali, romanised: Uttora'') is a neighbourhood of Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. The name derives from the Bengali language, Bengali word ''uttor'' () meaning "north". It lies on the road to Gazipur, Dhaka Division, Gazipur, and adjoins Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. History Planning In 1966, Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha, Dhaka Improvement Trust (DIT) planned to build a satellite town under ''North Satellite Town project'' in Dhaka District. In 1980, DIT changed the project name into ''Uttara Residential Model Town Project''. First phase Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha, RAJUK completed the first phase of the project in 1992. In this phase, Uttara had 6,000 plots. The total land for these plots was 950 acres. ''The Daily Ittefaq'' (, Bangla pronunciation: ) is a Bengali-language daily newspaper. Founded in 1949 by Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani and Yar Mohammad Khan, it is the oldest and one of the most circulated newspapers in Bangladesh. The newspaper format is broadsheet, and is printed by Ittefaq Group of Publications Limited. Pre-1971 ''Ittefaq'' was initially published weekly. On 15 August 1949, the first issue of Ittefaq was off the press. Bhashani served as the original editor. Later, Bhashani and Yar Mohammad Khan appointed Manik Miah as the editor. ''Samakal'' () is a Bengali-language daily newspaper published in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The paper is owned by Ha-Meem Group. It began publication in 2005. Golam Sarwar was the editor of the paper from its launch until his death in 2018. In 2020, Samakal had a circulation of 270,000, which made it the eighth most widely read newspaper in the country. Over the years, the paper's writers have included Ajoy Dasgupta, Abed Khan, Mizanur Rahman Khan, and Khalil Rahman.
