Uttar Pradesh Day (ISO: ''Uttara Pradēśa Divasa'') is celebrated as foundation day of Indian state, Uttar Pradesh. It is observed on 24 January. ISO 15919 is an international standard for the romanization of Indic scripts. Published in 2001, it is part of a series of romanization standards by the International Organization for Standardization. ''The Pioneer'' is an English-language daily newspaper in India. It is published from multiple locations in India, including Delhi. It is the second-oldest English-language newspaper in India still in circulation after ''The Times of India''. In 2010, ''The Pioneer'' launched its Hindi version in Lucknow. Author Rudyard Kipling (1865–1936), in his early 20s, worked at the newspaper office in Allahabad as an assistant editor from November 1887 to March 1889; much of his poetry was published in the paper. The United Provinces of Agra and Oudh was a province of India under the British Raj, which existed from 22 March 1902 to 1937; the official name was shortened by the Government of India Act 1935 to United Provinces (UP), by which the province had been commonly known, and by which name it was also a province of independent India until 1950. Ram Naik (born 17 April 1934) is a veteran Indian politician from the Bharatiya Janata Party who served as the 19th Governor of Uttar Pradesh. Political career Ram Naik was a member of the 13th Lok Sabha and was Minister of Oil and Natural Gas in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee cabinet (1999–2004). The history of Uttar Pradesh, a state in India, stretches back several millennia. The region shows the presence of human habitation dating back to between 85,000 and 73,000 years ago. Additionally, the region seems to have been domesticated as early as 6,000 BC.
