Utsjoki
Utsjoki (; ; ; ; ) is a municipality in Finland, the northernmost in the country. It is in Lapland and borders Norway as well as the municipality of Inari. The municipality was founded in 1876. It has a population of () and covers an area of of which is water. The population density is . Utsjoki has two official languages: Finnish and Northern Sami. It is the municipality in Finland with the largest portion of official Sami speakers; of the population. Ethnically, 54.6% of the population were Sami in 2019, making Utsjoki the only municipality in Finland with Sami majority. The border with Norway follows the river Teno, which flows into the Arctic Sea. The northernmost village in Finland and in the European Union is Nuorgam. Lapland, Finland
Lapland is the largest and northernmost region of Finland. The 21 municipalities in the region cooperate in a Regional Council. Lapland borders the Finnish region of North Ostrobothnia in the south. It also borders the Gulf of Bothnia, Norrbotten County in Sweden, Finnmark County and Troms County in Norway, and Murmansk Oblast and the Republic of Karelia in Russia. Nuorgam
Nuorgam () is a traditional Sámi village in the northern periphery of Finland. Administratively, it is part of the municipality of Utsjoki, within the region of Lapland. It is the northernmost point of Finland, as well as the northernmost point of the European Union. , it had a population of approximately 200 people. The 2022 Finnish action film ''Sisu'' was filmed primarily in Nuorgam. Etymology Nuorgam is a Finnish adaptation of the Northern Sámi name Njuorggán, which is of unknown meaning and origin. The Finnish name was Niorgaisoando in 1740, became Niorkam in the 1770s when it started to be used as a surname, and became Njorkama in 1804. The first family to use the surname Nuorgam arrived in the village sometime in the late 18th century from the nearby village of Pulmangi on the Norwegian side. Utsjoki Church
Utsjoki Church is a Church (building), church in the Lapland (Finland), Lapland town of Utsjoki. It is the northernmost church in Finland as well as in the European Union. Belonging to the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland, it was designed by the architecture office of Ernst Lohrmann and was built with grey stones during the years 1850–1853. Finnish National Road 4
Finnish national road 4 ( or ; or ; also known as Lahti Highway (; ) in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area) is a highway in Finland. It is the main route from Helsinki to Northern Finland and a major road link in the country. It runs from Erottaja in Helsinki to Sami Bridge in Utsjoki. The road is long, making it Finland's longest highway. The road is also part of the European route E75 and of TERN; the section between Oulu and Kemi is part of the European route E8. European Route E75
European route E 75 is part of the International E-road network, which is a series of main roads in Europe. The E 75 starts at the town of Vardø (town), Vardø in Norway by the Barents Sea, and it runs south through Finland, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia, North Macedonia, and Greece. The road ends after about (not counting ferries) at the town of Sitia on the eastern end of the island of Crete in the Mediterranean Sea, it being the most southerly point reached by an E-road. (The northernmost one is the European road E69, E69.) From the beginning of the 1990s until 2009, there was no ferry connection between Helsinki and Gdańsk. However, Finnlines started a regular service between Helsinki and Gdynia. Karigasniemi
Karigasniemi () is a village in the municipality of Utsjoki in Finland. It lies at the foot of Mount Ailigás. The village is situated on the border between Norway and Finland south-east of the Norwegian village of Karasjok. It lies on the banks of the river Inarijoki (Anarjohka), which, downstream of Karigasniemi, joins the river Karasjohka to form the famous salmon fishing river Tana. Karigasniemi lies on the road between the Finnish town of Ivalo and Lakselv in Norway. Karigasniemi is home to about 300 people, of which more than half are Sámi. There are one grocery store, two petrol stations and three bars and restaurants, mostly because of a lot of border traffic from the Norwegian side.
