State Route 174 (SR-174) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Utah. Spanning in rural Millard County, it connects the Intermountain Power Plant with U.S. Route 6 south of Lynndyl. Route description Starting at the main gate of the Intermountain Power Plant in rural Millard County, State Route 174 travels straight in a west-southwest direction for about along Brush Wellman Road through the Sevier Desert before ending at its intersection with U.S. Route 6. History The Utah State Legislature established State Route 174 in 1985, along its current alignment. This coincided with the construction of the Intermountain Power Plant, which commenced in 1981, and began commercial operation in 1986. Millard County ( ) is a county in the U.S. state of Utah. As of the 2020 United States census, the population was 12,975. Its county seat is Fillmore, and the largest city is Delta. History The Utah Territory legislature created the county on October 4, 1851, with territory not previously covered by county creations and including some area in the future state of Nevada. It was named for the thirteenth US President Millard Fillmore, who was in office then. Fillmore was designated as the county seat. The county boundaries were altered in 1852 and again in 1854. On March 2, 1861, the US government created the Nevada Territory, which effectively de-annexed the described portion of Millard County falling in that Territorial Proclamation. Intermountain Power Plant is a large coal-fired power plant at Delta, Utah, US. It has an installed capacity of 1,900 MW, is owned by the Intermountain Power Agency, and is operated by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. The plant includes a HVDC converter. It is scheduled for replacement in 2025 with an 840 MW natural gas plant, designed to also burn "green hydrogen." Description The power plant consists of two units each with a generation capacity of 950 MW. Generating units are equipped with General Electric tandem compound steam turbines and Babcock & Wilcox subcritical boilers. The boiler houses of Intermountain Power Plant are tall and the flue gas stack is tall. Lynndyl is a town in Millard County, Utah, United States. The population was 111 at the 2020 census. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 3.5 square miles (9.1 km2), all land. History Lynndyl began as a railroad town in 1907. The Sevier Desert is a large arid section of central-west Utah, United States, and is located in the southeast of the Great Basin. It is bordered by deserts north, west, and south; its east border is along the mountain range and valley sequences at the perimeter of the Great Basin, with the large north–south Wasatch Range and its associated mountainous landforms. Interstate 215 (I-215), also known locally as the Belt Route, is the only auxiliary Interstate in the U.S. state of Utah, forming a three-quarters loop around Salt Lake City and many of its suburbs. The route begins at the mouth of Parley's Canyon at a junction with I-80 east of the city center, and heads south through the edge of the Salt Lake City metropolitan area's eastern suburbs of Millcreek, Holladay, and Cottonwood Heights.
