Usqunta (also spelled ''Oscconta, Osqonta'' or ''Uscunta'') is an archaeological site in the Ayacucho Region in Peru. Intihuatana
Intihuatana is a ritual stone in South America associated with the astronomic clock or calendar of the Inca. Its name is derived from the local Quechua language. The most notable Intihuantana is an archaeological site located at Machu Picchu in the Sacred Valley near Machu Picchu, Peru. The name of the stone (coined perhaps by Hiram Bingham) is derived from Quechua: ''inti'' means "sun", and ''wata-'' is the verb root "to tie, hitch (up)" (''huata-'' is simply a Spanish spelling). The Quechua ''-na'' suffix derives nouns for tools or places. Hence ''inti watana'' is literally an instrument or place to "tie up the sun", often expressed in English as "The Hitching Post of the Sun". Ayacucho Region
Ayacucho (), known as Huamanga from its creation in 1822 until 1825, is a department and region of Peru, located in the south-central Andes of the country. Its capital is the city of Ayacucho. Archaeological Sites In Peru
Archaeological sites in Peru are numerous and diverse, representing different aspects including temples and fortresses of the various cultures of ancient Peru, such as the Moche (culture), Moche and Nazca culture, Nazca. The sites vary in importance from small local sites to UNESCO World Heritage sites of global importance. Their nature and complexity of the sites vary from small single-featured sites such as pyramids to entire cities, such as Chan Chan and Machu Picchu. Preservation and investigation of these sites are controlled mainly by the Culture Ministry (MINCUL) ().
