Uruphong
Uruphong ( th, อุรุพงษ์) is a four way intersection and neighbourhood in Thailand. It is in the areas of the Thung Phaya Thai and Thanon Phetchaburi sub-districts which are the part of the Ratchathewi district in downtown Bangkok. It connects the Rama VI and Phetchaburi roads beneath both a footbridge and also to the expressway. It's considered to be the first part of Phetchaburi road and is near the Yommarat railway halt, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Phaya Thai Palace, Ramathibodi Hospital, Phramongkutklao Hospital and Victory Monument. Its name comes from a bridge which was historically located across a nearby canal. It was a bridge built to commemorate Prince Urubongs Rajsombhoj, one of the sons of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), who died when he was a child. Later on, the bridge and the canal were both demolished to make way for Phetchaburi road, but the name "Uruphong" still exists today. Urubongs Rajsombhoj
Urubongse Rajasombhoj ( th, อุรุพงศ์รัชสมโภช; ; 15 October 1893 – 20 September 1909) was Prince of Siam (later Thailand). He was a son of Chulalongkorn of Siam. His mother was The Noble Consort (Chao Chom Manda) Luean Niyavananda, daughter of Lord (Phra) Narindrabhorn and Prik Niyavananda. His elder full sister, Princess Lavad Voraong, died in infancy. Life As a child he joined his father on trips to many places, including Europe. Unlike the other princes, Urubongse was not educated in Europe, but instead received instruction from foreign teachers at a private residence in Siam. He died on 20 September 1909, on King Chulalongkorn's birthday, at the age of 15. His death brought sadness to the members of the Royal Family, especially King Chulalongkorn. Phetchaburi Road ( th, ถนนเพชรบุรี, ) is a main road of Bangkok. It starts at Yommarat Intersection near Yommarat Railway Halt and Uruphong Intersection and ends at Khlong Tan Intersection, passing through four districts, Dusit, Ratchathewi, Huai Khwang, and Suan Luang. Ratchathewi ( th, ราชเทวี, ) is a district in central Bangkok, Thailand. Clockwise from the north, its neighboring districts are Phaya Thai, Din Daeng, Huai Khwang, Watthana, Pathum Wan and Dusit. History The district was part of Dusit district prior to 1966, and part of Phaya Thai District from 1966 to 1989, when it was elevated to its own district. Victory Monument ( th, อนุสาวรีย์ชัยสมรภูมิ, ) is a military monument in Bangkok, Thailand. The monument was erected in June 1941 to commemorate the Thai victory in the Franco-Thai War. The monument is in Ratchathewi District, northeast of central Bangkok, at the center of a traffic circle in the intersection of Phahonyothin, Phaya Thai and Ratchawithi roads. Design The monument is entirely Western in design. This is in contrast with another prominent monument of Bangkok, the Democracy Monument, which uses indigenous Thai forms and symbols. People's Democratic Reform Committee
The People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) or People's Committee for Absolute Democracy with the King as Head of State (PCAD) was a reactionary umbrella political pressure group in Thailand. Its aim was to remove the influence of former premier Thaksin Shinawatra from Thai politics by deposing the incumbent Pheu Thai government of Yingluck Shinawatra and creating an unelected "People's Council" to oversee political reforms. The group played a key role in the 2013–14 Thai political crisis and the lead up to the 2014 Thai coup d'état, organising large-scale protests within Bangkok and disrupting voting in the 2014 Thai general election in order to prevent a predicted victory by Pheu Thai.
