Subida a Urkiola is a one-day cycling race in Durango, Biscay in the Basque Country (autonomous community), Basque Country whose starts in Durango, Spain, Durango and ends at the Sanctuary of Urkiola. The first edition began in 1931, organized by the Sociedad Ciclista Bilbaina. It has not been held consistently since 1984. Leonardo Piepoli (born 29 September 1971 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland) is a former Italy, Italian professional Bicycle road racing, road racing cyclist. He most recently rode for on the UCI ProTour, but had his contract suspended in July 2008 during the Tour de France amid allegations of the use of the blood boosting drug EPO in the team. He was later suspended for two years, which effectively ended his career. Career He is a record four-time winner (1995, 1999, 2003, 2004) of the Subida a Urkiola. Piepoli is a specialist climber, and this was shown in the 2006 Giro d'Italia, where he was one of the strongest riders in the mountains and won two stages. Igor Antón Hernández (born 2 March 1983) is a Spanish former professional road bicycle racer, who rode professionally between 2005 and 2018 for the , and squads. Sanctuary Of Urkiola
The Sanctuary of Saint Anthony the Great, Anthony the Abbot and Anthony of Padua, Saint Anthony of Padua of Urkiola is a Catholic Church, Catholic temple located in the hill and port of Urkiola, in the Biscayan municipality of Abadiño, in the Basque Country (autonomous community), Basque Country, Spain. It is unknown exactly how old the Sanctuary is, but according to some documents, it could have been between the 8th and 11th centuries, making it one of the oldest of the region. The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), the world's governing body in the sport of bicycle racing, classifies races according to a rating scale. The rating is represented by a code made of two or three parts and indicates both the type or style of race (the first part), and its importance or difficulty (the second and third parts, lower being harder).
