Urbano Music
Urbano music (Spanish and Portuguese: ; , ) or Latin urban is a transnational umbrella category including many different genres and styles. As an umbrella term it includes a wide and diverse set of genres and styles such as dancehall, dembow, urban champeta, funk carioca, Latin hip hop and reggaeton. The commercial breakthrough of this music took place in 2017 with artists from Colombia, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Panama, Puerto Rico, the United States, Venezuela and even non-Spanish-speaking nations, such as Brazil, where Portuguese is spoken. 1990s Origins In the late 1980s and early 1990s, most Latin hip hop came from the United States West Coast. Cuban-American artist Mellow Man Ace was the first Latino artist to have a major bilingual single attached to his 1989 debut. Urban Champeta
Urban champeta is a subgenre of folk music and dance originating in the Atlantic coastal regions of Colombia, combining sounds of reggae, hip hop, dancehall, African rhythms, and contemporary electronic sounds. Evolution of the genre The origin of champeta began in the 1970s when commercial boats brought African music to the coast of Cartagena. African rhythms such as the soukous, highlife, mbguanga and other Caribbean rhythms such as the zouk and soca came to the coasts of Colombia. Champeta was created by adapting these rhythms to the urban life of Cartagena, who created an authentic sound of their own based on their life experiences and urban living. Groups have revolutionized champeta during its 30 years of evolution, such as Son Palenque and Anne Zwin, whose contributions made champeta a triumphant rhythm of the Carnaval de Barranquilla in the '80s. ''Latin Alliance'' is the studio album by a one-off collaboration of Chicano and Latin American rappers. The group was formed in 1989 and released their one and only album in 1991 via Virgin Records. It features performances by Kid Frost, A.L.T., Markski, Rayski Rockswell, Mellow Man Ace, Lyrical Engineer, Hip Hop Astronaut, and the Lyrical Latin, with guest appearances by War and Scoop DeVille. The recording sessions took place at Digital Sound & Picture in New York City, Skyline Recording in Topanga, Wide Tracks, Image Recorders, and Echo Sound in Los Angeles. Arturo R. Molina Jr. (born May 31, 1964), better known as Frost (originally Kid Frost), is an American rapper, songwriter and record producer. He charted in the 1990s with his first four albums: ''Hispanic Causing Panic'', ''East Side Story (Kid Frost album), East Side Story'', ''Smile Now, Die Later'' and ''When Hell.A. Freezes Over''. "Mentirosa" (lit. "''liar''" (female)) is a single by Mellow Man Ace from his debut album, '' Escape from Havana''. It was one of the first songs produced by Tony G, with scratches provided by Tony's fellow DJ at Los Angeles' KDAY radio station, Julio G (no relation, despite internet sites calling him Tony's brother).
