Urban Records
Urban Records is a German record label subsidiary of Universal Music Group. The label was founded in 1993 by Sascha Basler as a sub-label of Polydor Germany. In 1994, Urban became a sub-label of Motor Music and in 1995 Urban was Germany's most successful dance label. In 1999, Urban Records became part of Universal Records as a result of a merger between Polygram-Universal and Universal Music GmbH. Universal decided to merge Urban/Universal Records with the rap label Def Jam Germany into the Urban Def Jam label group. Artists who have recorded for Urban Records includes Dua Lipa, Ezhel, Pashanim, 2Bona, Joje, Ozan Çolakoğlu, Tarkan, Panjabi MC, Antique, Barcode Brothers, Zascha Moktan, 3 Man Island, and Shaft. Tarkan (singer)
Tarkan Tevetoğlu (; born 17 October 1972) is a German-born Turkish singer-songwriter. Since the early 1990s, with his successful albums, he has been a prominent figure of pop music, recognized both in Turkey and worldwide. Tarkan was born and raised in Alzey, Rhineland-Palatinate, in the-then West Germany. In 1986, he moved to Turkey together with his family. Tarkan, who had been interested in music since his childhood, went to high school at Karamürsel and took music lessons. In the following years, he met the owner of İstanbul Plak, Mehmet Söğütoğlu, and signed a contract to release his albums. Shaft (British Electronic Duo)
Shaft are an English electronic music production duo, known for their covers and remixes of " (Mucho Mambo) Sway" and " Mambo Italiano". The former entered and peaked at number two on the UK Singles Chart in August 1999, then reached number one on New Zealand's Recorded Music NZ chart in December. They followed this with the release of "Mambo Italiano" (vocal by Donna Canale), which peaked at number twelve on the UK Singles Chart but ultimately did not replicate the success of the previous single. Zascha Moktan
Zascha Moktan (; born 23 December 1981) is a Nepalese-German singer, pianist and guitarist. Career Born in New Delhi, India to a Nepalese father and a German mother, Moktan moved to Germany at the age of six. She moved from India via London – where she had her first music performances in a gospel choir — to Frankfurt, Germany, then to Berlin. She started playing the piano when she was eight years old, and she later joined her school's choir where she completed training in classical music. In the mid-1990s Moktan founded a band along with friends in Frankfurt, who initially played punk and rock music. Antique (band)
Antique is a Swedish-Greek musical duo consisting of Helena Paparizou (; born 1982) and Nikos Panagiotidis (; born 1978), originating from Sweden and combining Greek popular music and lyrics with a Nordic dance-pop beat. Both Paparizou and Panagiotidis were born and raised in Sweden by Greek parents. They were the first ever to be nominated for a Swedish Grammis in the category modern dance with a Greek song. In 2001, Antique were selected to represent Greece at the Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen with the song " Die for You", sung in a blend of English and Greek, ending with a third place – only behind Estonia and hosts Denmark. Rajinder Singh Rai (born February 14, 1973), better known by his stage name Panjabi MC, is an English recording artist, rapper, record producer and DJ. Ozan Çolakoğlu (, born 1 April 1972) is a Turkish composer, songwriter and music producer; famous for his work with various Turkish pop singers and his multiple film scores.
