Uppsala University – Campus Gotland
Uppsala University – Campus Gotland () is a campus of Uppsala University and a former university college (''högskola'') previously known in English as University of Gotland (). It is located in Visby on the Baltic island of Gotland, Sweden. The school became a part of Uppsala University on 1 July 2013, and has been known as 'Uppsala University – Campus Gotland' since then. The university college was originally established in 1998 and had around 4,300 registered students in 2007, many of them part-time and distance students. The main building which used to be an old Whiskey distillery is located in the central part of Visby, between the city marina and the Almedalen park. The Rindi Student Union, which organises the students, has its own building, called Rindi-borgen. The Gotland Game Conference is held annually in June, where campus students show games, movies, and animations produced in the last year. A satellite campus, branch campus or regional campus is a campus of a university or college that is physically at a distance from the original university or college area. This list of university, universities in Sweden is based on the Higher Education Ordinance of 1993 (as amended until January 2006). With few exceptions, all higher education in Sweden is publicly funded. Gotland Game Conference
Gotland Game Conference (GGC), previously known as the Gotland Game Awards, is an international conference, game exhibition and -competition for students. The event is held annually and marks the end of the academic year for the students at the Department of Game Design at Campus Gotland, Uppsala University. Here they can showcase everything that they have learned during the year to a jury consisting of professionals from the game development industry, the gaming press and academia. Almedalen
Almedalen (, ) is a park in the Swedish city of Visby on the island of Gotland. It is well known in Sweden as the central site of the annual Almedalen Week. In medieval times the area, just outside the city walls was the city harbour. Due to the post-glacial rebound, the port over time grew too shallow and a new one had to be constructed further away from the city where the sea is deeper. In the 19th century the area went by the name (Old Port). When the area was planted with elms in the 1870s, the name Almedalen was coined. In Sweden, the name Almedalen is generally associated with the Almedalen Week, an annual event in Visby which is an important meeting place for everyone involved in Swedish politics. Gotland County
Gotland County () is a county or of Sweden. Gotland is located in the Baltic Sea to the east of Öland, and is the largest of Sweden's islands. Counties are usually sub-divided into municipalities, but Gotland County consists of only one county council, which also serves as a municipality, Region Gotland. The Baltic Sea is an arm of the Atlantic Ocean that is enclosed by the countries of Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Sweden, and the North European Plain, North and Central European Plain regions.
