Upeh Island
Upeh Island () is an islet located 600 metres off the coast of the town of Klebang in the Malaysian state of Malacca (2 kilometres before land reclamation). It used to be one of the places in the state with the highest number of hawksbill turtle landings and nesting sites. But a series of ongoing land reclamation projects near the island cause rapid coastal erosion, degradation of its beach and a dwindling number of turtle landings at the islet for nesting and egg laying. Melaka Tengah District (translated as Central Malacca District), formerly known as Central District, is one of the three administrative districts in Malacca, Malaysia. Klebang is a suburb of Malacca City and a mukim of Melaka Tengah District in the Malaysian state of Malacca. Located along the Strait of Malacca, the town is rapidly developing due to a series of ongoing land reclamation projects in and around the town since the late 1990s. Hawksbill Sea Turtle
The hawksbill sea turtle (''Eretmochelys imbricata'') is a critically endangered sea turtle belonging to the family Cheloniidae. It is the only extant species in the genus ''Eretmochelys''. The species has a global distribution that is largely limited to tropical and subtropical marine and estuary ecosystems. The appearance of the hawksbill is similar to that of other marine turtles. In general, it has a flattened body shape, a protective carapace, and flipper-like limbs, adapted for swimming in the open ocean. ''E. imbricata'' is easily distinguished from other sea turtles by its sharp, curving beak with prominent tomium, and the saw-like appearance of its shell margins. Hawksbill shells slightly change colors, depending on water temperature. While this turtle lives part of its life in the open ocean, it spends more time in shallow lagoons and coral reefs.
