Turkey was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 1998 with the song "", composed by Erdinç Tunç, with lyrics by Canan Tunç, and performed by Tarkan Tüzmen, Tüzmen. The Turkish participating broadcaster, the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT), selected its entry through a national final. Before Eurovision 67 songs were submitted to the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) that selected ten of them for the national final. The final took place on 28 February 1998 at the TRT Studios in Ankara, hosted by Bülend Özveren and Ekin Olcayto. Ten songs competed and the winner was determined by an expert jury. Tarkan Tüzmen (born 7 March 1968), known professionally as Tüzmen, is a Turkish singer and actor, known for being a representative for Turkey in the Eurovision Song Contest 1998, and being the brother of former minister for Turkey Kürşad Tüzmen. Professional career Tüzmen attempted to represent his home country of Turkey three times: Once in 1996 with the songs "Bilirsin ya", which did not receive a rank, and ''Var mısın söyle'', a duo with Pınar Ayhan, then Pınar Karakoç, and came in second. Turkish Radio And Television Corporation
The Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT; Turkish: ) is the national public broadcasting, public broadcaster of Turkey, founded in 1964. TRT was for many years the only television and radio broadcaster in Turkey. Before the introduction of commercial radio in 1990, and subsequently commercial television in 1992, it held a monopoly on broadcasting. Bülend Özveren (19 August 1941 – 18 October 2022) was a Turkish television presenter and sports commentator. Özveren completed his secondary education at (Istanbul) and higher education at Galatasaray High School. He graduated from Istanbul University, faculty of Law. Özveren started working at TRT on 31 July 1965, first as a television presenter before becoming the sports commentator in 1972. From 1973 to 2012, he intermittently served as the Turkish commentator for the Eurovision Song Contest. Özveren spoke English, Japanese, Spanish and French, as well as his native Turkish. Timur Selçuk (2 July 1946 – 6 November 2020) was a Turkish composer, pianist, singer and conductor. Biography One of the greatest Turkish composers, Timur Selçuk was the son of Turkish neo-classical music composer Münir Nurettin Selçuk and actress Şehime Erton. His great-uncle was the Ottoman Grand Vizier Abdurrahman Nurettin Pasha. His younger brother is jazz drummer and composer Selim Selçuk. Pamela Aslı Spence (born 25 February 1973) is a Turkish-English pop-rock singer and actress. Born to an English father and a Turkish mother, she sings in Turkish, which she learned at the age of 15. Ramazan Kubat (born 4 October 1974), better known as Kubat, is a Turkish folk singer and composer distinguished with his particular style and his applied use of electronic instruments in his songs. Early life Kubat was born in Antwerp in 1974. His father was an Alevi Muslim Turk and his mother is a Sunni Muslim Turk from Karacalar village in EmirdaÄŸ. His uncle is a hafiz from the same village. Levent Çoker (born 21 November 1958) is a Turkish musician, arranger, conductor, and composer who represented Turkey in the Eurovision Song Contest as a composer, arranger and conductor in 1996 and 1997. His song " Dinle" won 3rd place in Eurovision Song Contest 1997 and was the country's best result since it began participating in the Contest, and remained so until 2003, when soprano pop star Sertab Erener attained the top spot.
