Unpersons (band)
Unpersons was an American heavy metal band from Savannah, Georgia. Active from 1997 until 2007, its members would go on to play in other notable bands that were involved in Savannah's heavy music scene. History Unpersons was formed by guitarist Sanders Creasy and drummer Carl McGinley in 1997 in Savannah, Georgia. The band's name is a reference to George Orwell's dystopian novel ''1984''. Andrew Fidler was the group's original bassist and was 16 years old when they performed outside of Savannah for the first time. Unpersons began touring in 2000 and released a self-titled debut extended play through the Fish Fur and Born to Die record labels that December. It was around this time that the band's lineup stabilized after several early personnel changes. Kylesa
Kylesa is an American sludge metal band that was formed in Savannah, Georgia. Their music incorporates experimentalism with heavy riffs, Down-tuned guitar, drop-tuned guitars and elements of psychedelic rock. The group was established in 2001 by the former members of Damad, with the addition of guitar player Laura Pleasants who is from North Carolina. The band has since undergone lineup changes; the remaining original members are Phillip Cope and Laura Pleasants. In 2006, the band added two drummers, Carl McGinley and Jeff Porter. Eric Hernandez joined in 2008 to replace Porter. In April 2016, the band announced that they would be going on an indefinite hiatus. Noise Rock
Noise rock (sometimes called noise punk) is a noise music, noise-oriented style of experimental rock that spun off from punk rock in the 1980s. Drawing on movements such as minimal music, minimalism, industrial music, and New York hardcore, artists indulge in extreme levels of distortion through the use of electric guitars and, less frequently, electronic instrumentation, either to provide percussive sounds or to contribute to the overall arrangement. The Jesus Lizard
The Jesus Lizard is an American Rock music, rock band formed in 1987 in Austin, Texas by vocalist David Yow, guitarist Duane Denison and bassist David Wm. Sims. They relocated to Chicago, Illinois, in 1989, where they found kindred spirits in recording engineer Steve Albini and Touch and Go Records. ''A Grey Sigh in a Flower Husk'' is a split album by American heavy metal bands Baroness and Unpersons. The album artwork, which was done by Baroness frontman John Baizley, was named MTV "album cover of the week" upon the record's release. Background Baroness and Unpersons were both based in Savannah, Georgia, and toured together during the mid-2000s. The bands recorded their material for ''A Grey Sigh in a Flower Husk'' at The Jam Room Studio in Columbia, South Carolina, with Kylesa guitarist and vocalist Phillip Cope producing the sessions. The Baroness songs were recorded in December 2005 and are the last to feature the band's original lead guitarist, Tim Loose. Loose had already parted ways with the group earlier that year but rejoined his former bandmates in the studio to perform the songs.
