The University of Mary Hardin–Baylor (UMHB) is a private Baptist university in Belton, Texas. UMHB was chartered by the Republic of Texas in 1845 as Baylor Female College, the female department of what is now Baylor University. It has since become its own institution and grown to 3,914 students and awards degrees at the baccalaureate, master's, and doctoral levels. It is affiliated with the Baptist General Convention of Texas and accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. History UMHB's history dates to the time before Texas became a U.S. state. Wedsel Gary "Buddy" Groom Jr. (born July 10, 1965) is a former Major League Baseball left-handed middle relief pitcher. He attended the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 1987 amateur draft. He played in the minor leagues, and he eventually signed with the Detroit Tigers in 1990. He moved up through the minors and broke into the majors as a spot starter for the Tigers in 1992. He lost all of his 5 decisions, and he did not win a decision until 1995, his first year as a bonafide reliever. In 1995, he was traded to the Florida Marlins for Mike Myers, where he finished the year. The next year, he signed with the Oakland Athletics, where he played until 1999. Jerrell Alexander Freeman (born May 1, 1986) is an American former professional football linebacker who played in the National Football League (NFL) and Canadian Football League (CFL). He played college football for the Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders and was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Tennessee Titans of the NFL in 2008. He then played three seasons in the CFL for the Saskatchewan Roughriders, where he led the league in tackles in 2011. In 2012, he signed with the NFL's Indianapolis Colts, and also later played for the Chicago Bears. Miriam (, lit. ‘rebellion’) is described in the Hebrew Bible as the daughter of Amram and Jochebed, and the older sister of Moses and Aaron. The Telegram is locally owned and operated by Frank Mayborn Enterprises, under editor and publisher Sue Mayborn, the widow of Frank Mayborn.
