The Belgian University Foundation (French: ''Fondation Universitaire''; Dutch: ''Universitaire Stichting'') was founded in 1920. The Organisation of European Cancer Institutes (OECI) is an international non-profit organization with European Economic Interest Grouping status. It was created in 1979 to promote greater cooperation among European cancer centers and institutes. Its head office is located in Brussels at the Belgian University Foundation. Background The OECI is the main European network of accredited cancer centers on the continent. The OECI relies on a network of almost 100 institutions all over Europe, to ensure cancer patients are provided with the specialized healthcare for their type of cancer. Similar to the NCI's network of designated comprehensive cancer centres, the OECI developed the Accreditation and Designation Program in order to improve organization and teamwork between cancer centres across Europe. Cercle De Lorraine
The ''Cercle de Lorraine'' ( French) or ''Club van Lotharingen'' ( Dutch) was a Belgian business club, located in Brussels. The club was founded in 1998 to bring together distinguished and representative personalities from the Belgian financial community, both French-speaking (Walloons) as well as Dutch-speaking ( Flemish), who were united within an honorary committee. On 11 May 2020, the press reported that the ''Cercle de Lorraine'' was for sale due to financial difficulties. The Royal Belgian Academy Council of Applied Sciences (BACAS) is a Belgian council, which consists of the Flemish ''Academy Committee for Science and Technology'' (CAWET) and Walloon ''Comité de l'Académie pour les Applications de la Science'' (CAPAS) committees of the Flemish and French Academies of Science in Belgium. BACAS has ten members from the academy and ten from industry. The council studies the impact of technological development on society and provides advice for the Belgian government and leaders of industry. As of 2008 those two committees have become both two full classes of both academies, meaning that the members will become full members, nominated by the King of Belgium, of the academy. The Academia Belgica is an academic organization. The goal of the Academy is to promote the cultural, scientific and artistic cooperation between Italy and Belgium. The organization was founded in 1939 when the Belgian princess Marie-José married the Italian crown prince Umberto. The Academy is also the seat of the Belgian Historical Institute in Rome and of the foundation princess Marie-José, which supports historical research. Francqui Foundation
The Francqui Foundation was founded in 1932 by Emile Francqui and Herbert Hoover in Belgium. The foundation is by Royal Decree an ''Institution of Public Utility''. The Francqui Foundation wants to encourage disinterested fundamental research. The current chairman of the foundation is Herman Van Rompuy. Previous chairmen include Mark Eyskens and Jacques Groothaert. Activities The Francqui Foundation makes their purpose a reality by working on four major initiatives : # The Francqui Prize : In 1933, the Francqui Prize was awarded for the first time.
