University College Cork RFC
University College Cork Rugby Football Club is an Ireland, Irish rugby union club which plays in 2024–25 All-Ireland League (rugby union)#Division 1B, Division 1B of the All-Ireland League (rugby union), All-Ireland League. Founded in 1872, they originally played as ''Queen's College Cork'', as UCC was then known. Recent successes include winning the All Ireland U-20 Championship in 2002. In the same year, they also reached the AIB League playoffs for the first time, narrowly missing out on promotion to Division 1. The Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) () is the body managing rugby union in the island of Ireland (both Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland). Mike Ross (born 21 December 1979) is a retired Irish rugby union footballer who played prop for Irish club Leinster and the Ireland national rugby team. He attended St. Colman's College, Fermoy, as a day-boy from 1992 to 1998, and he played his club rugby at this time with Fermoy RFC. The former UCC and Cork Constitution player made the move from Munster and played for three years at the highest level in England, making his name in the English Premiership with Harlequins. Following a move to Leinster, he featured in a number of Ireland squads and lined out for the Wolfhounds, as well as making his debut for the National team on the 2009 Summer tour to Canada and the USA. William Roche (rugby Union)
William Joseph Roche (28 March 1895 in Limerick, Ireland – 26 June 1983 in Bandon, County Cork, Ireland) was an Irish rugby union player who represented Munster, Ireland and the British Lions. He also played club rugby for both University College Cork and Newport. Club career Between 1920 and 1927 Roche played club rugby for Newport and was captain during the 1926-27 season. In 1926 he captained the club against the New Zealand Māoris in a game which ended in a 0-0 draw. Rugby international Ireland Roche won 3 caps for Ireland during the 1920 Five Nations Championship. Patrick Parfrey, (born 1950) is a Canadian physician, specialized as nephrologist and epidemiologist. Parfrey is an internationally known scientist and clinical epidemiologist. Paddy McGrath (rugby Union)
Patrick John McGrath (born 20 August 1941) is an Irish former rugby union international. Born in Burma, McGrath attended Rockwell College and was a good schoolboy athlete, winning All-Ireland junior titles in the 100 metres hurdles and pole vault. Most suited to the wing, he played his rugby for Munster and University College Cork, where he studied medicine. He was capped 10 times for Ireland (#709) between 1965 and 1967, scoring four tries. At Musgrave Park, McGrath was part of the 1967 Munster team that beat Australia 11-8 in front of 10,000 spectators. In 1969, McGrath also appeared in 10 matches for Waikato Rugby (#638) in New Zealand provincial rugby, scoring five tries (15 points). He represented the Hamilton Marist club. Tom Kiernan
Thomas Joseph Kiernan (7 January 1939 – 3 February 2022) was an Ireland international rugby union player. He won 54 caps for Ireland as a full-back between 1960 and 1973 and captained his country 24 times. At the time of his retirement he was Ireland's most-capped player, most experienced captain, and record scorer in internationals with 158 points. John Kelly (born 18 April 1974) is a retired Irish rugby union footballer. He played for Munster in the Celtic League and the Heineken Cup, and played for Cork Constitution in the All Ireland League (AIL). Munster Kelly made his Munster debut against Cardiff Blues in September 1997. He scored his first try for Munster in this game.
