University Avenue (Edmonton)
University Avenue is a discontinuous street in west Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, partially an arterial road and partially a residential street. It was established in the 19th century along the south edge of a series of farm lots west of the yet-to-be-incorporated town of Strathcona, Alberta, Strathcona, causing it to run parallel with the North Saskatchewan River to the north. The farm lots later became the University of Alberta campus, which was established in 1908. In the mid 20th century, University Avenue was permanently segmented as part of traffic calming measures, including disconnecting the eastern section with 114 Street, extending Joe Morris Park, and extending the grounds of Our Lady of Mount Carmel school. The city of Edmonton, Alberta, has a transportation network fairly typical for a Canadian city of its size, involving most modes of transport including, but certainly not limited to, air, rail, road and public transit. Edmonton Light Rail Transit
Edmonton Light Rail Transit, commonly referred to as the LRT, is a light rail system in Edmonton, Alberta. Part of the Edmonton Transit Service (ETS), the system has 18 stations on two lines and of track. As of 2018, it is number seven on the busiest light rail transit systems in North America, with over 113,000 daily weekday riders. Queen Alexandra is a mixed residential and commercial neighbourhood in south west Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The neighbourhood, once part of the City of Strathcona, is named for the British queen Alexandra of Denmark. McKernan is a neighbourhood located in southwest Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. It is named for John McKernan, a prominent businessman in the City of Strathcona whose parents' farm was located there beginning in the late 1870s. "Jack" McKernan (1870-1918) was the force behind the Princess Theatre, which still stands on Whyte Avenue. Belgravia is a residential neighbourhood located in Edmonton, Alberta. It is located southwest of the University of Alberta main campus. Named after the Belgravia area of 19th-century London, the neighbourhood was once the southern terminus of the Edmonton Radial Railway. The McKernan/Belgravia LRT Station is located adjacent to the neighbourhood at the northwest corner of 114 Street and 76 Avenue in neighbouring McKernan. Windsor Park is a south central neighbourhood in the City of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. It is located immediately to the west of the University of Alberta north campus and overlooking the North Saskatchewan River valley to the north, west, and south west. Groat Road is a major roadway in Edmonton, Alberta. It is named after Malcolm Groat, a former Hudson's Bay Company employee who settled in the present-day Groat Estates area in the 1880s. Groat Road is part of a continuous roadway that runs through Sherwood Park, Edmonton, and St. Albert that includes Wye Road, Sherwood Park Freeway, Whyte Avenue, portions of University Avenue and Saskatchewan Drive, and St. Albert Trail. Sherwood Park Freeway
Sherwood Park Freeway is a freeway that connects east Edmonton to Sherwood Park in Alberta, Canada. It begins in the Gainer Industrial area where Argyll Road and 82 (Whyte) Avenue merge before intersecting 50 Street. It then curves slightly northeast through industrial areas in southeast Edmonton across 34 Street into Strathcona County, then across 17 Street after which the freeway ends at Anthony Henday Drive. Sherwood Park
Sherwood Park is a large hamlet in Alberta, Canada within Strathcona County that is recognized as an urban service area. It is located adjacent to the City of Edmonton's eastern boundary, generally south of Highway 16 (Yellowhead Trail), west of Highway 21 and north of Highway 630 (Wye Road). Other portions of Sherwood Park extend beyond Yellowhead Trail and Wye Road, while Anthony Henday Drive (Highway 216) separates Refinery Row to the west from the balance of the hamlet to the east.
