Universidades (TransMilenio)
Universidades is a station on the TransMilenio mass-transit system of Bogotá, Colombia. Location The station is located in the sector of the historical center of the city, more specifically on the race 3 between the City of Lima and the 22nd street. It is accessed in two ways: through a traffic light crossing located The street 22 and by means of a tunnel that connects it with the station of the Waters. It serves the neighborhoods The Waters, Las Vegas and Las Nieves. Also it is used by students of the different university institutions located in that zone. It also offers proximity to the hill of Monserrate, the historical center of La Candelaria, among others. Toponymy The station gets its name given the proximity of several universities and educational institutions in the area of the station. TransMilenio
TransMilenio is a bus rapid transit (BRT) system that serves Bogotá, the capital of Colombia, and Soacha, a neighbouring city. The system opened to the public in December 2000. As of 2024, 12 lines totalling run throughout the city. It is part of the city's Integrated Public Transport System (Bogotá), Integrated Public Transport System (''Sistema Integrado de Transporte Público'' [SITP]), along with the urban, complimentary, and special bus services operating on neighbourhood and main streets. TransMilenio consists of several interconnected BRT lines, with raised floor stations in the center of a main avenue, or "''troncal''". Passengers typically reach the stations via a bridge over the street. Usually four lanes down the center of the street are dedicated to bus traffic. The outer lanes allow express buses to bypass buses stopped at a station. As of 2024, 1,801 buses on average were circulating on the trunk line system. Monserrate
Monserrate (named after Catalan language, Catalan homonym mountain ''Montserrat (mountain), Montserrat'') is a mountain over high that overlooks the city center of Bogotá, the capital city of Colombia. It rises to above the sea level, where there is a church (built in the 17th century) with a shrine, devoted to ''El Señor Caído'' ("The Fallen Lord"). The Mountain, already considered sacred in pre-Columbian times when the area was inhabited by the indigenous Muisca people, Muisca, is a pilgrim destination, as well as a major tourist attraction. In addition to the church, the summit contains restaurants, cafeteria, souvenir shops and many smaller tourist facilities. Monserrate can be accessed by aerial tramway (a cable car known as the teleférico), by funicular, or by climbing, the preferred way of pilgrims. La Candelaria is the 17th locality of Bogotá, Colombia. It is a historic neighborhood located in the city's downtown area, similar to the ''Old City'' in other cities. Jorge Tadeo Lozano University is a private university whose main campus is located in Bogotá, Colombia, with satellite campuses in Cartagena, Santa Marta and Chía. The Universidad del Rosario, officially Colegio Mayor de Nuestra Señora del Rosario, is a Colombian private university founded on Roman Catholic principles, by Fray Cristobal de Torres in 1653. Located in Bogotá, due to its important place in Colombian history, it is known as "the Cradle of the Republic".
