Universidad Station (Medellín)
Universidad is the seventh station on line A of the Medellín Metro. It is located in the eastern part of Medellín. The station is located in an area of great academic, cultural and scientific importance and a site of great confluence of routes to different parts of the city because its proximity to the University of Antioquia and metropolitan areas such the Botanical Garden of Medellín and Barefoot Park. The station was opened on 30 November 1995 as part of the inaugural section of line A, from Niquía station, Niquía to Poblado station, Poblado. Description The station has a pedestrian bridge leading to the eastern entrance of the University City Main Campus of the University of Antioquia, one of the most important centers of higher education in the country, with an influx of more than 45,000 students and teachers. The Medellín Metro (Spanish language, Spanish: ''Metro de Medellín'') is a rapid transit system that crosses the Metropolitan Area of Medellín from North to South and from Centre to West. It first opened for service on 30 November 1995. As one of the first implementations of modern mass transportation in Colombia and the only metro system in the country, the Medellín Metro is a product of the urban planning of the Antioquia department of Colombia. The University of Antioquia (), also called UdeA, is primarily a public research-based university, located in the city of Medellín, Colombia. Botanical Garden Of Medellín
The Joaquin Antonio Uribe Botanical Garden of Medellín (), more simply known as the Botanical Garden of Medellín, is a 14-hectare botanical garden in Medellín, Colombia. The botanical garden has 4,500 flowers and 139 recorded bird species. It has an important collection of orchids preserved in an architectural space called the "Orchideorama". Description The entrance pavilion to the botanical garden was designed by Lorenzo Castro and Ana Elvira Vélez. The garden includes a butterfly house, cactus garden, exhibition spaces, library, and pond. A plan to create an additional pavilion was rejected and a competition for local architects was devised to come up with a new structure for the park. Barefoot Park
Barefoot Park () is a zen-inspired public park in Medellín, Colombia. The park was funded by EPM and designed by architect Felipe Uribe de Bedout. The park includes a green area with gardens and bamboo, a sand area, and an area with water fountains. As suggested by its name, the park is playful in nature. Children and adults are encouraged to play in the park barefoot. The Barefoot Park was created between 1998 and 2000. Niquía Station
Niquía is the first station on the Medellín Metro from north to south on line A. It is located in Bello, the second most populous city in the metropolitan area A metropolitan area or metro is a region consisting of a densely populated urban area, urban agglomeration and its surrounding territories which share Industry (economics), industries, commercial areas, Transport infrastructure, transport network ..., after Medellín. Poblado is a station on line A of the Medellín Metro from north to south. It is named after El Poblado (Medellín), El Poblado, where it is located adjacent to the Monterrey shopping center. Parque Explora is an interactive science museum in Medellín, Colombia, loosely modeled after San Francisco's Exploratorium. It houses South America's largest freshwater aquarium, Explora Aquarium.
