''Universal Truths and Cycles'' is the 13th studio album by American indie rock band Guided by Voices. After releasing their previous two albums on TVT Records, Guided by Voices returned to Matador Records. This was the highest charting Guided by Voices album at the time of release. It peaked at #160 on the Billboard Top 200, #10 on the Independent Albums list, and in the best chart performance of their career, #3 on the Top Heatseekers chart []. Todd Tobias
Todd Tobias (born 1967) is an American multi-instrumentalist and record producer, best known for his work with Robert Pollard and his band Guided by Voices. Other projects include Circus Devils, Kramies, The Library Is On Fire, and musical theater composer and lyricist George Griggs. Tobias began producing albums in 2002, first working with indie rock pioneers Guided By Voices on their album Universal Truths And Cycles. One year earlier in 2001, Tobias joined Guided By Voices front man Robert Pollard and brother Tim Tobias in the psychedelic rock trio Circus Devils (2001-2017). In 2012, Tobias began recording solo albums of instrumental, atmospheric mood music ranging in style from ambient to post-rock. Todd's debut album Medicine Show, released on Hidden Shoal Recordings. has been described as "a multi-faceted instrumental opus, evoking a shadowy steampunk dystopia." Asha Mevlana
Asha Mevlana (born Asha Mevlana Clayton-Niederman) is an American violinist and travel presenter. She is known for playing an electric 7-string viper violin and for performing with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. She has released two albums with the string quartet Invert and one with the Australian rock band Porcelain. Biography Mevlana attended the New England Conservatory Preparatory Division and went on to graduate from Wellesley College with a degree in viola performance. After graduation she moved to New York City, where she began working in public relations for Zagat Survey. In 1999 Mevlana was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 24. She underwent surgery, chemotherapy and radiation and left her job with Zagat and began working as a music teacher and as an outreach coordinator for the Young Survival Coalition. Boston Spaceships
Boston Spaceships was a rock band featuring Robert Pollard and Chris Slusarenko of Guided By Voices, and John Moen of The Decemberists and Perhapst. The name of the band came from a nickname Pollard gave to the Boston cream donut from Krispy Kreme, which is Pollard's favorite donut. The band released several albums before disbanding in 2011 with their final album ''Let it Beard''. History Beginnings In June 2008 Pollard announced he had formed a new recording project, Boston Spaceships. Pollard's confidence in the band led to a seventeen date fall tour that began in late September. Douglas Scott Gillard (born December 23, 1965) is an American guitarist and songwriter. He has been a member of major indie pop and punk bands, most notably Guided by Voices, Nada Surf, Bambi Kino, Death of Samantha, and Cobra Verde. Early life Doug Gillard was born in Sandusky, Ohio. His parents were from Colorado, where his father helped construct missile silos, and his mother was a teacher's aide. Gillard grew up on a farm in rural Northeast Ohio, in the town of Huron, and attended schools in Elyria, Ohio. By age five, Gillard was writing songs, which he recorded on a reel-to-reel tape machine to be mailed by his family to his older sister who lived in Germany.
