Unity Movement
The Unity Movement (in Spanish: Movimiento Unidad, UNIDAD) was a political party coalition in El Salvador. The coalition was formed in 2013 by Former President Antonio Saca. Electoral Alliance
An electoral alliance (also known as a bipartisan electoral agreement, electoral pact, electoral agreement, electoral coalition or electoral bloc) is an association of political parties or individuals that exists solely to stand in elections. El Salvador
El Salvador, officially the Republic of El Salvador, is a country in Central America. Antonio Saca
Elías Antonio "Tony" Saca González (born 9 March 1965) is a Salvadoran politician who was President of El Salvador from 1 June 2004 to 1 June 2009. He is currently serving a minimum 10-year prison sentence on corruption charges. Early life Born in Santa Elena, Usulutan, Saca is of Palestinian descent on his father's side, from a family of Catholic immigrants who arrived in El Salvador in the early 20th century from the town of Bethlehem. Saca's Muslim maternal grandfather, Musa Ali Saleh, changed his name to Moises Gonzalez. Saca's maternal side is the Flores family. Grand Alliance For National Unity
The Grand Alliance for National Unity (GANA; ) is a political party in El Salvador. The party established itself on 16 January 2010 and was recognized by the Supreme Electoral Court of El Salvador on 19 May of the same year. The majority of party members came from the Nationalist Republican Alliance (ARENA). Originally the defection from ARENA included 12 deputies in the Legislative Assembly, but this number has grown to 16. GANA ranks third in seats in the assembly with 11, after the FMLN's 31 and the ARENA's remaining 28. There have been accusations of ARENA members being bought or blackmailed by the GANA party in order to secure them in their party. GANA has also been accused of multiple cases of corruption. National Conciliation Party
The National Coalition Party (, PCN) is a nationalist political party in El Salvador. Until 2011 it was known as the National Conciliation Party (, PCN). It was the most powerful political party in the country during the 1960s and 1970s, and was closely associated with the Salvadoran military. Julio Adalberto Rivera Carballo, a candidate of the National Conciliation Party, was elected president in 1962, and the next three presidents were also from the party. Christian Democratic Party (El Salvador)
The Christian Democratic Party (, abbreviated PDC) is a Salvadoran political party. From 2011 to 2012, the party was renamed to Party of Hope (, abbreviated PES) before reverting to the Christian Democratic Party. The PDC has been led by Reinaldo Carballo since 2023. The PDC was founded in November 1960 in opposition of the Salvadoran military government, but in 1961, some members of the PDC left the party to form the National Conciliation Party (PCN) which would become the military's ruling party. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, the PDC participated in various presidential and legislative elections which were marked by electoral fraud in the PCN's favor. 2014 Salvadoran Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in El Salvador on 2 February 2014, with a second round held on 9 March since no candidate won an outright majority. The primary candidates were Vice-President Salvador Sánchez Cerén of the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front, FMLN, San Salvador Mayor Norman Quijano of Nationalist Republican Alliance, ARENA, and Former President Antonio Saca, Antonio "Tony" Saca.
