United States Bobsled And Skeleton Federation
USA Bobsled/Skeleton (USABS) is the official sports governing body, national governing body (NGB) for Bobsled and Skeleton (sport), Skeleton in the United States. It serves as the United States, American representative for the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation and is chartered by the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee. USABS is headquartered in Lake Placid, NY. The organization formerly used the name "United States Bobsled and Skeleton Federation" or USBSF. Racing Circuits and Operations The bobsled and skeleton teams compete on the two levels within the IBSF, a development level and a world cup level. The Development Team competes on the North American Cup and European Cup while the National Team generally competes on the World Cup. Garrett Hines (born July 3, 1969) is an American bobsledder who has competed from the late 1990s to the early 2000s. Competing in two Winter Olympics, he won the silver medal in the four-man event at Salt Lake City in 2002. Hines also won a silver medal in the four-man event at the 2003 FIBT World Championships in Lake Placid, New York. Prior to his bobsleigh career, Hines also was involved in track and field as a decathlete. Additionally he played American football in high school. He attended Eisenhower High in Blue Island, Illinois for one year before moving to Tennessee, and going to Bartlett High School. Hines then went on to play two sports at Southern Illinois University. James Edmound Shea Jr. (born June 10, 1968) is an American skeleton racer who won the gold medal at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. Biography Shea was the third generation of his family to take part in Winter Games. His father competed in Nordic combined and cross-country skiing events in the 1964 Winter Olympics, and his grandfather, Jack Shea, won two gold medals in the 1932 Winter Olympics at Lake Placid in speed skating. His grandfather also recited the athlete's oath at the 1932 opening ceremony. He was born and raised in West Hartford, Connecticut, and moved to Lake Placid, New York, in his late teens. Jill Bakken (born January 25, 1977) is an American Olympic bobsledder who has competed since 1994. As the driver, she and partner Vonetta Flowers won the gold medal in Bobsleigh at the 2002 Winter Olympics for the U.S. Bakken's best Bobsleigh World Cup season finish was second in the two-woman event in 1999–2000. Bakken was a Specialist in the Utah Army National Guard and sponsored by the Army World Class Athlete Program at the time she won gold. Brian Shimer (born April 20, 1962) is an American bobsledder who competed from 1985 to 2002. Competing in five Winter Olympics, he won the bronze medal in the four-man event at Salt Lake City in 2002. Shimer also won three bronze medals at the FIBT World Championships with one in the two-man event (1997) and two in the four-man event (1993, 1997). He won the 1992–3 Bobsleigh World Cup championships both in the four-man and the combined men's events. John Daly (born June 10, 1985) is an American skeleton racer who has competed since 2001. He has been on the World Cup podium many times, at such tracks as Winterberg, Calgary, and St. Moritz. Career Prior to competing in skeleton, Daly was a BMX racer but stopped after breaking both wrists during a practice run. He also competed in track and field while in high school and college. Daly began competing in the sport of skeleton in 2001. From 2001 to 2010, he won gold in the Intercontinental Cup and America's Cup where he reset the Lake Placid track record.
