United States Army Europe and Africa (USAREUR-AF) is an Army Service Component Command (ASCC) /Theater Army responsible for directing United States Army operations throughout the U.S. European Command (EUCOM) and U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) area of responsibility. During the Cold War, it supervised ground formations primarily focused upon the Warsaw Pact to the east as part of NATO's Central Army Group. United States Army Regional Correctional Facility – Europe (USARCF-E) is the only Department of Defense, Level 1 corrections facility in the European and African theaters and is located at Sembach Kaserne, Germany. Midwest Joint Regional Correctional Facility
The Midwest Joint Regional Correctional Facility (JRCF) is a military prison at 831 Sabalu Road, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas which opened in 2010. The prison on has a design specification of 512 beds with 43 in special housing and the rest in general housing and dormitory. The prison handles inmates sentenced to terms of ten years or less. It also will house people who are awaiting trial. It is one of three major federal prisons on federal land in Leavenworth. The civilian prison Federal Correction Institution, Leavenworth is outside the boundaries of Fort Leavenworth on the southwest edge and the military United States Disciplinary Barracks is on the northeast side near the Sherman Army Airfield. Northwestern Joint Regional Correctional Facility (NWJRCF) was a Level II correctional activity with facility operations in Fort Lewis, Washington and Submarine Base Bangor, Washington. The United States Disciplinary Barracks (USDB), colloquially known as Leavenworth, is a military correctional facility located on Fort Leavenworth, a United States Army post in Kansas. It is one of two major prisons built on Fort Leavenworth property, the other is the military Midwest Joint Regional Correctional Facility, which opened on 5 October 2010.
