United Nations Security Council Resolution 233
United Nations Security Council Resolution 233 was unanimously adopted by the United Nations Security Council on June 6, 1967, after an oral report by the Secretary-General regarding the outbreak of fighting and the situation in the Near East. The Council called for an immediate cessation of all military activities in the area and requested that the Secretary-General keep the Council promptly and currently informed on the situation. United Nations Security Council
The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations (UN) and is charged with ensuring international peace and security, recommending the admission of new UN members to the General Assembly, and approving any changes to the UN Charter. Its powers as outlined in the United Nations Charter include establishing peacekeeping operations, enacting international sanctions, and authorizing military action. The UNSC is the only UN body with authority to issue resolutions that are binding on member states. Like the UN as a whole, the Security Council was created after World War II to address the failings of the League of Nations in maintaining world peace. The Six-Day War, also known as the June War, 1967 Arab–Israeli War or Third Arab–Israeli War, was fought between Israel and a coalition of Arab world, Arab states, primarily United Arab Republic, Egypt, Syria, and Jordan from 5 to 10June 1967.
