Union High School (Indiana)
Union Junior and High School is a small junior and senior high school located in Union Township, Modoc, Indiana. It is a part of the Union School Corporation. It is one of five high schools in Randolph County, Indiana. In 2004 Union High School was named an Indiana Four Star School by the Indiana Department of Education. The school is a member of the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA), which is the governing body for high school sports in the state of Indiana. History Union High School (Modoc) was formed in 1952 after the closing of three small high schools: Modoc High School, Losantville High School, and Huntsville High School. For the first five years, students attended the old Modoc High School. At the time, the school was oversubscribed. When the school formed, it was the largest high school in the county. U.S. Route 36 (US 36) is an east–west United States Numbered Highway that travels approximately from Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado to Uhrichsville, Ohio. The highway's western terminus is at Deer Ridge Junction, an intersection in Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado, where it meets US 34. Its eastern terminus is at US 250 in Uhrichsville, Ohio. The Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) is the arbiter of interscholastic competition among public and private high schools in the U.S. state of Indiana. Member schools are classified into four classes based on enrollment, ranging from the smallest, 1A, to the largest, 4A. Modoc, Indiana
Modoc is a town in Union Township, Randolph County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 157 at the 2020 census. History There are several legends to how the town of Modoc got its name. One of them said that a man travelling on the train threw out a cigar box containing the name Modoc, and that Henry Conley, one of the first settlers of the town, picked it up and suggested to bystanders that it would be a good name for the town. Another theory is that Modoc was named after the Modoc people who were traditionally located in northern California. They became noted for their resistance to the US Army during the Modoc War, ending in 1873. A post office has been in operation at Modoc since 1883. Union School Corporation
Union School Corporation is a school district in Indiana. Much of its territory is in Union Township, Randolph County, where it includes Modoc and Losantville. A portion is in Stoney Creek Township, Henry County, where it includes Blountsville. It has two physical schools: Union Elementary School and Union Junior and High School. Both share a single building. In 2025, these schools combined had 290 students. The district also has virtual education programs. In 2025 the virtual programs had a sum of around 7,500 students.
