Unified Highway is an American reggae musical duo formed in Isla Vista, California. It consists of Eric Rachmany of the band Rebelution and DJ AmpLive, formerly of Zion I Zion I was an American Hip hop music, hip hop project founded by Rapping, MC and Record producer, producer Baba Zumbi (real name Stephen Gaines) in Oakland, California. Reggae () is a music genre that originated in Jamaica during the late 1960s. The term also denotes the modern popular music of Jamaica and its Jamaican diaspora, diaspora. Funk Music
Funk is a music genre that originated in African-American communities in the mid-1960s when musicians created a rhythmic, danceable new form of music through a mixture of various music genres that were popular among African-Americans in the mid-20th century. It deemphasizes melody and chord progressions and focuses on a strong rhythmic groove (music), groove of a bassline played by an electric bassist and a drum part played by a drum kit, percussionist, often at slower tempos than other popular music. Hip-hop or hip hop (originally disco rap) is a popular music genre that emerged in the early 1970s from the African-American community of New York City. Eric Rachmany (born May 15, 1984) is an American singer-songwriter from Isla Vista, California. He is best known as the lead singer of the reggae rock band Rebelution (band), Rebelution as well as its side project, Unified Highway. Career Rachmany was born in San Francisco, California to an Iranian-American family. His father was born in Iran while his mother was born in New York (state), New York to an Iranian family. He considers Don Carlos (musician), Don Carlos and the Dave Matthews Band among his biggest musical influences. He began his musical career in 2004 when he founded the band Rebelution (band), Rebelution at the age of 20 with students from the University of California, Santa Barbara. In 2014 he started a side project of Rebelution called Unified Highway with San Francisco-based artist DJ Amp Live, formerly of Zion I. Amp Live is an American alternative hip hop producer and disc jockey. He was one half of the duo Zion I, but left the group in 2015 amicably. He has remixed works by Radiohead, Tokyo Police Club and Jamie Lidell. Life and career Born and raised in Texas, Amp Live released ''Rainydayz Remixes'', an 8-track remix project of Radiohead's ''In Rainbows'', in 2008. He received a cease and desist letter from Warner/Chappell, informing him that ''Rainydayz Remixes'' "created musical arrangements/remixes" without proper approval. Rebelution is a reggae, reggae rock music band formed in Isla Vista, California. The current members of Rebelution are Eric Rachmany, Rory Carey, Marley D. Williams, and Wesley Finley. Each member attended and completed school at the University of California, Santa Barbara. History Formation and ''Courage to Grow'' (2004–2007) Rebelution was formed in the college town of Isla Vista, California, in 2004. The five original band members were Eric Rachmany, Matt Velasquez, Rory Carey, Marley D. Williams, and Wesley Finley, who were all University of California, Santa Barbara students.
