Unified European Left Group
Unified European Left Group (UEL) is a group in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, formed by 34 MPs from various leftwing parties in 16 countries. Georgios Katrougalos (Greece) is the president of the group, Andrej Hunko (Germany), Ioanetta Kavvadia (Greece) and Pablo Bustinduy (Spain) are vice-presidents of the group. The UEL operates in the framework set out by PACE: to promote and protect human rights, rule of law and democracy. The Group is in particular inspired by the European Convention on Human Rights and the European Social Charter and by other conventions, arrangements and activities which promote and protect human dignity, social and gender equality, organized solidarity and sustainable development of the planet. Parliamentary Assembly Of The Council Of Europe
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) is the parliamentary arm of the Council of Europe, a 46-nation international organisation dedicated to upholding human rights, democracy and the rule of law. The Assembly is made up of 306 members drawn from the national parliaments of the Council of Europe's member states, and generally meets four times a year for week-long plenary sessions in Strasbourg. It is one of the two statutory bodies of the Council of Europe, along with the Committee of Ministers, the executive body representing governments, with which it holds an ongoing dialogue. However, it is the Assembly which is usually regarded as the "motor" of the organisation, holding governments to account on human rights issues, pressing states to maintain democratic standards, proposing fresh ideas and generating the momentum for reform. The Left (Germany)
The Left (german: Die Linke; stylised as and in its logo as ), commonly referred to as the Left Party (german: Die Linkspartei, links=no ), is a democratic socialist political party in Germany. The party was founded in 2007 as the result of the merger of the Party of Democratic Socialism (PDS) and Labour and Social Justice – The Electoral Alternative. Through the PDS, the party is the direct descendant of the Marxist–Leninist ruling party of the former East Germany, the Socialist Unity Party of Germany. Podemos (Spanish Political Party)
Podemos (, translated in English as "We Can"), * ca, Podem, * gl, Podemos, is a left-wing populist political party in Spain. Part of the anti-austerity movement in Spain, it was founded in January 2014 by political scientist Pablo Iglesias Turrión and other academics in the aftermath of the 15-M Movement protests against inequality and corruption. In the 2014 European Parliament election in Spain, Podemos won 8.0% of the vote and five seats. António Filipe Gaião Rodrigues (born 28 January 1963, in Lisbon) is a Portuguese jurist, professor and politician, former member of the Assembly of the Republic, who had been elected in representation of the Portuguese Communist Party from the Unitary Democratic Coalition's list, for the Santarém constituency, since 2009.
