Emanuel Ungaro (13 February 1933 – 21 December 2019) was a French fashion designer who founded the eponymous fashion house in 1965. Early life Ungaro's Italian father fled to France from Francavilla Fontana of Brindisi province because of the fascist dictatorship in Italy. Ungaro's father was a tailor and he gave his son a sewing machine when he was young. The House of Emanuel Ungaro At the age of 22, Ungaro moved to Paris. Three years later he began designing for the House of Cristóbal Balenciaga for three years before quitting to work for Courrèges. Joseph M. Ungaro (November 4, 1930 – November 12, 2006) was a journalist most famous for his question to President Richard Nixon which elicited the reply "I am not a crook." Early career Ungaro graduated from Providence College and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. In 1950 he began working for ''The Providence Journal and Evening Bulletin'' first as a copy boy, and then as a reporter, managing editor, and publisher. The Question On November 17, 1973, at the annual Associated Press Managing Editors convention in Orlando, Florida, Ungaro asked Nixon about his reported underpayment of income taxes in 1970 and 1971. Nixon's famous declaration came after he answered a subsequent question about the Watergate scandal, posed by then president of the association Dick Smyser of Oak Ridge, Tennessee's ''The Oak Ridger''. Malatesta Ungaro
Ungaro Malatesta (June 1327 – July 1372), born Galeotto Malatesta, was an Italian condottiero and lord of Jesi. He was the son of Malatesta Guastafamiglia, lord of Pesaro and Rimini. He changed his name to Ungaro when King Louis I of Hungary created him knight in December 1347. He married Costanza, daughter of Obizzo III d'Este, Marquis of Ferrara, in 1363. After being imprisoned in the war of Louis of Taranto in southern Italy, he fought as Papal commander for cardinal Gil de Albornoz against the Ordelaffi and the Manfredi. On April 16, 1363 he severely defeated Bernabò Visconti and in the following years he often supplanted his old uncle Galeotto I Malatesta as Papal commander-in-chief. In 1367 he helped Pope Urban V to return to Rome, but the following year, having been unable to quench a revolt in Siena against Emperor Charles IV, he preferred to return to Rimini. He died in 1372.
