Underworld (group)
Underworld are a British electronic music group formed in 1987 in Cardiff, Wales (although active in several other guises since 1978), and the principal collaborative project of Karl Hyde and Rick Smith. After briefly performing as a funk and synth-pop outfit, resulting in two albums between 1988 and 1989, Underworld gained prominence after reshaping into a dance and techno band, releasing albums including ''Dubnobasswithmyheadman'' (1994), ''Second Toughest in the Infants'' (1996) and ''Beaucoup Fish'' (1999), as well as singles "Born Slippy Nuxx" and " Dark & Long (Dark Train)". Alexandra Palace
Alexandra Palace is an entertainment and sports venue in North London, situated between Wood Green and Muswell Hill in the London Borough of Haringey. A listed building, Grade II listed building, it is built on the site of Tottenham Wood and the later Tottenham Wood Farm. It was designed by John Johnson (architect, born 1807), John Johnson and Alfred Meeson. It opened in 1873 but following a fire two weeks after its opening, was rebuilt by Johnson. It was intended as "the People's Palace" and as such it is often referred to by the nickname "Ally Pally". Junior Boy's Own is an English record label specialising in electronic dance music. Underworld, The Chemical Brothers and X-Press 2 are its most successful artists. History The origins of the label go back to 1987, when a group of young clubbers started a fanzine named ''Boys Own'', inspired by a similar fanzine for Liverpool football fans called ''The End'', edited by future singer of The Farm, Peter Hooton; the title '' Boys Own'' had been used by several boys' adventure magazines from about 1850 to 1950. Born Slippy Nuxx
"Born Slippy .NUXX" is a song by the British electronic music group Underworld. It was first released as the B-side to another track, "Born Slippy", in May 1995. The fragmented lyrics describe the perspective of an alcoholic. After it was used in the 1996 film '' Trainspotting'', "Born Slippy .NUXX" reached number two on the UK singles chart. It was named one of the best dance tracks and one of the best tracks of the 1990s by numerous publications. For the 2017 film ''T2 Trainspotting'', Underworld created a new version with timestretched chords. It was later added as a bonus track to reissues of their 1996 album ''Second Toughest in the Infants''. ''Beaucoup Fish'' is the fifth album by Underworld, released in 1999. Following the huge success of the single " Born Slippy .NUXX" from its use in the film '' Trainspotting'', ''Beaucoup Fish'' was Underworld's most anticipated release. It spawned several successful singles, including " Push Upstairs", "Jumbo" and " Moaner", which was previously used in the film '' Batman & Robin''. It is the last studio album to feature Darren Emerson, and the third album by the techno/house orientated version of Underworld. ''Second Toughest in the Infants'' is the fourth studio album by British electronic music group Underworld, and the second in their " MK2" line-up with Darren Emerson. With this album, Underworld expanded on their progressive palette, while developing their signature sound of abrasive beats and anthemic melodies. The name of the album derives from a comment made by member Rick Smith's six-year-old nephew, Simon Prosser, when asked on his progress at infant school (the level of schooling attended by four- to seven-year-old children in the United Kingdom). Funk
Funk is a music genre that originated in African-American communities in the mid-1960s when musicians created a rhythmic, danceable new form of music through a mixture of various music genres that were popular among African-Americans in the mid-20th century. Freur
Freur were a Welsh new wave and synth-pop band featuring Karl Hyde and Rick Smith, who went on to form the electronic band Underworld. It was their second band, following their art school collaboration, the Screen Gemz. Their best known song is "Doot-Doot", which peaked at No. 59 on the UK Singles Chart, but became a hit in New Zealand, where it reached number 17. Darren Paul Emerson (born 30 April 1971) is an English musician, DJ and producer best known as a former member of the British electronic music group Underworld. Career Early life Emerson began mixing hip hop records at the age of 14, and by 16 was DJing regularly at local venues. He began to explore House Music and quickly acquired a reputation as one of the top British DJs, and demand for his services saw him playing at top clubs such as The Milk Bar, Limelight, and Venus.
