Underwater Demolition Assault Unit
The Naval Special Warfare Command (), commonly known as the Royal Thai Navy SEALs (an acronym for SEa–Air–Land), is an elite special operations force of the Royal Thai Navy. The unit was set up in the name of Underwater Demolition Assault Unit in 1956 with the assistance of the U.S. government. A small element within the Navy SEALs has been trained to conduct maritime counter-terrorism missions. The unit has close ties with the United States Navy SEALs and conducts regular training exercises. History In 1952, the Thai Ministry of Defence considered forming a diving unit. At a meeting with the Royal Thai Army and Royal Thai Police, it was agreed that the Royal Thai Navy would be responsible for establishing the unit. Underwater Demolition Team
The Underwater Demolition Team (UDT), or frogmen, were amphibious units created by the United States Navy during World War II with specialized missions. They were predecessors of the Navy's current United States Navy SEAL, SEAL teams. Their primary WWII function began with reconnaissance and underwater demolition of natural or man-made obstacles obstructing amphibious warfare, amphibious landings. Postwar they transitioned to Scuba set, scuba gear changing their capabilities. With that they came to be considered more elite and tactical during the Korean War, Korean and Vietnam Wars. A Military Assistance Advisory Group (MAAG) is a designation for a group of United States military advisors sent to other countries to assist in the training of conventional armed forces and facilitate military aid.
