Underground Operations
Underground Operations was an independent punk rock record label based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Established in 1995, the label was originally based in Ajax, Ontario. Operated by Mark Spicoluk, former Closet Monster member and former bass player for Avril Lavigne, this label was one of the most successful independent labels in Canada. Spicoluk started the label when he was 16 years of age. Underground Operations shut down on December 2, 2016. Machete Avenue is a Canadian indie rock duo from London, Ontario, composed of lead vocalist Chad Michael Stewart and keyboardist Scott Parker. History Stewart, from St. Thomas, and Parker, from London (also known as Scotty Scheid), formed Machete Avenue in 2005. They began performing in London and in the Toronto area, and later that year the pair released an EP, ''The First Cuts''. The tracks consisted of vocals, keyboard and acoustic guitar. Machete Avenue took part in Guelph's Wakestock festival in 2007, and won London Music Awards in 2007 and 2008. A second album, "Machete Avenue", was released in 2008. Protest the Hero is a Canadian progressive metal band from Whitby, Ontario. Originally named Happy Go Lucky, the band changed their name to Protest the Hero, then released their debut EP, '' Search for the Truth'', in 2002. In 2005, the band released their first album '' Kezia'' on Canadian indie label Underground Operations. On January 23, 2006, the band signed with Vagrant Records for ''Kezias American release on April 4, 2006. Means (band)
Means was a Canadian post-hardcore and melodic hardcore band from Regina, Saskatchewan. History The band was formed in 2001 under the name of Means 2 An End as a three-piece by main-songwriter and lyricist Matt Goud. They were originally from the small city of Dauphin, Manitoba. In 2003, they relocated to Regina, Saskatchewan. They eventually integrated elements of hardcore into their sound and dropped "2 An End" from their name. It was around this time, in 2005, that original bassist Blair Roberts quit to pursue a family. He was replaced by Dylan Johnstone, formerly of Yorkton, Saskatchewan hardcore group Statement of Service. They remained a three-piece until mid-2006 when Wells joined so Johnstone could switch to lead vocals. This era of the band saw them switch to a mainly metalcore sound inspired by Shai Hulud and Misery Signals. Marilyn's Vitamins were a Canadian punk rock band formed in 1995 from Orangeville, Ontario, Canada, playing their last show December 28, 1999 in Toronto, Ontario. In those near-five years they released two albums on Raw Energy and 7"s on Ductape, and Ugly Pop Vinyl. A posthumous collection was released on Underground Operations in 2003. The band consisted of Rob Moir (guitar), Danny Complex (guitar/vocals), Colin Lichti (vocals), Adam Cook (bass/vocals), Jeff Breen (guitar), Kristoffer Wood (bass) and Shawn Dickey (drums). I Hate Sally was a heavy metal/post-hardcore band from Ontario, Canada. It was formed in 2000 in Kingston, Ontario by Marc Garniss, Ben Thomas and Kelly Payne. Biography After numerous line-up changes the band finally had a consistent and solid line-up, this being Marc Garniss, Ben Thomas, Nick Stecz and Dan Vokey. With this line-up they started touring and writing songs that would later be released on I Hate Sally's 2004 debut ''Sickness of the Ages''. 2005 brought the return of former bassist Dee Prescott back on for vocal duties. With Dee in the line-up, I Hate Sally began recording an EP entitled ''The Plague'' which was also released in 2005. In late 2005 Ben Thomas left the band after having issues with the band members. Hostage Life
Hostage Life were a Canadian punk band from Toronto. History Formed in 2002, Hostage Life released its first EP, ''Sing for the Enemy'' on Toronto's independent punk rock label, Underground Operations, home to such bands as Closet Monster and Protest The Hero. The band's second album on the same label, titled Walking Papers, received positive criticism from reviewers, and the first single, "This Song Was Written By A Committee" achieved widespread radio-play on Toronto's alternative music radio station, CFNY. Lead singer Colin Lichti was the frontman for Brampton, Ontario band Marylin's Vitamins. The Holly Springs Disaster was a Canadian metalcore band formed in 2005 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. History They toured Canada numerous times to support their self-released eponymous EP (colloquially known as ''The Home Alone EP'') before collaborating with producer Zach Ohren to record their second EP, ''Motion Sickness Love''. The release was issued on September 18, 2007 by Canadian record label Underground Operations. After the release, THSD did a cross-country tour (Tour and Loathing) with Protest the Hero and All That Remains. Tour and Loathing marked the band's first time stopping to play east coast dates. Diemonds is a Canadian hard rock band formed in 2006 in Toronto and fronted by Priya Panda.
