Umezawa Yukari
née is a Japanese Go professional. Biography Yukari Umezawa was born in Tokyo in 1973, and graduated from Keio University in 1996. She first played Go at the age of 6 and she became a professional Go player in 1996. She then attained the rank of 5-dan in 2002 at the age of 29, and was married in the same year. Umezawa supervised the production of ''Hikaru no Go'', a manga about Go written by Yumi Hotta and illustrated by Takeshi Obata. She also became a consultant for the anime version of ''Hikaru no Go'' and hosted Go educational programs on NHK. Umezawa's sensei was Masao Kato. Umezawa is married to Shinya Yoshihara is a former Japanese football player. Takeshi Obata
is a Japanese manga artist that usually works as the illustrator in collaboration with a writer. He first gained international attention for '' Hikaru no Go'' (1998–2003) with Yumi Hotta, but is better known for ''Death Note'' (2003–2006) and '' Bakuman'' (2008–2012) with Tsugumi Ohba. Obata has mentored several well-known manga artists, including Nobuhiro Watsuki of '' Rurouni Kenshin'' fame, ''Black Cat'' creator Kentaro Yabuki, and '' Eyeshield 21'' artist Yusuke Murata. is a former Japanese football player. He is married to well-known professional Go player Yukari Yoshihara (née Yukari Umezawa), who is known for her work in spreading and teaching Go, especially in the worldwide-distributed manga and anime series Hikaru no Go. is a Japanese manga artist. Hotta is best known as the author of the best-selling manga and anime series '' Hikaru no Go'', which is widely credited for the late 90s-2000s boom of the game of go in Japan. The idea behind Hikaru no Go began when Yumi Hotta played a pick-up game of go with her father-in-law. She thought that it might be fun to create a manga based on this traditional board game, and began the work under the title of , named for the nine "star points" on a go board.
