''UltraSex'' is the debut studio album by American electronic music producer Mount Sims. It was released in 2002 by International DeeJay Gigolo Records in Europe, and Emperor Norton Records in the United States. Critical reception Christian Hoard, writing for ''Rolling Stone'' in 2002, gave the album a rating of three out of five stars: "Without the hooks or sense of humor of other electro revivalists such as Detroit Grand Pubahs or Fischerspooner, the L.A. band is left to its own slinky devices, which in fact works pretty well on 'Escape Hatch,' whose silly let's-slip-away fantasy is actually improved by its cheapness. Elsewhere, the dark, minor-key melodies sound like afterthoughts." Mount Sims
Matthew Sims, commonly known by his stage name Mount Sims (or Mt. Sims), is a Berlin-based American DJ, performance artist, and producer. A native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Sims began his career in the local music scene. Sims was involved in several groups, the most notable of which was Citizen King, an alternative rock band famous for their 1999 hit " Better Days (And the Bottom Drops Out)", which reached #25 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. However, Citizen King disbanded by 2002 for undisclosed reasons. Around the same time, Sims relocated to Los Angeles, where he continued his music career as a solo artist. Starting Mount Sims as an electronic music act, later releases have also shown influences from post-punk, new wave, and dark wave. Sims is almost exclusively responsible for every aspect of his music, providing vocals, instrumentation, and production. Fischerspooner was an electroclash duo and performance troupe formed in 1998 in New York City after meeting in school. The name is a combination of the founders' last names, Warren Fischer and Casey Spooner. Career Originally a duo formed by classically trained musician Warren Fischer and video-artist and experimental theater performer Casey Spooner for an impromptu rendition of their makeshift track "Indian Cab Driver" at the Astor Place Starbucks, the group grew to over 20 performers, most of whom are dancers and guest vocalists. The Detroit Grand Pubahs are an American musical group from Detroit, Michigan, comprising Paris the Black Fu (real name Mack Goudy Jr.) and The Mysterious Mr O. (real name Oliver Way). One of the founding members, Dr. Toefinger (real name Andy Toth), left in 2004. They are best known for their 2000 single "Sandwiches", which reached #29 on the Dance Club Songs chart. The group was nominated for "Outstanding Funk Artist / Group" at the Detroit Music Awards in 2002. International DeeJay Gigolo Records is a German electronic music record label run by techno artist DJ Hell (real name Helmut Geier). The label was founded in Munich in 1996 by DJ Hell and DJ Upstart as an affiliate of label Disko B. It is Germany's most successful electronic music record label, specialising in electro, house and techno with 80's pop and disco influences. "Gigolo" has released records by Dave Clarke, Jeff Mills, DJ Hell, Miss Kittin, The Hacker, The Penelopes, The Advent, Dopplereffekt, Fischerspooner, Tiga, Princess Superstar and Vitalic.
