Birgit Treiber
Birgit Treiber (born 26 February 1960) is a former swimmer from the German Democratic Republic. She won one gold and two silver medals in the 1976 Summer Olympics and a bronze medal in the 1980 Summer Olympics. It was later proven she was extensively involved in an illegal doping program that greatly improved her swimming abilities. Career She began her international career in 1975, setting a new world record in the 200 m backstroke at the 1975 World Aquatics Championships, where she also won silver medal in the 100 m breaststroke. At the 1976 Summer Olympics, she won a gold medal in the 4 × 100 m medley relay. She swam only in the preliminary round, where the East Germany team set a new Olympic record. In the 100 meters and 200 meters backstroke she finished second behind Ulrike Richter. In the same year she set world records in the 400 m individual medley and 200 m backstroke. Gudrun Wegner (later Wünsche, 28 February 1955 – 16 January 2005) was a German swimmer. Tracy Anne Stockwell, OAM, (born January 11, 1963), née Tracy Anne Caulkins, is an American former competition swimmer, three-time Olympic gold medalist, five-time world champion, and former world record-holder in three events. Caulkins was noted for her versatility and ability in all four major competitive swimming strokes: the butterfly, breaststroke, backstroke and freestyle. Caulkins won forty-eight national championships and set American records in all four strokes over a range of distances as well as in the individual medley (IM) events, which combine all four strokes over the course of a single race. Her versatility brought Caulkins many titles and awards, and as a result she is considered one of the greatest swimmers of all time. Kornelia Ender
Kornelia Ender (later Matthes now Grummt, born 25 October 1958 in Plauen, Bezirk Karl-Marx-Stadt) is a former East German swimmer who at the 1976 Summer Olympics became the first woman swimmer to win four gold medals at a single Olympic Games, all in world record times. It was later proven that the East German team doctors had systematically administered steroids to their athletes (albeit without the athletes' knowledge). As she had exhibited symptoms of steroid use in 1976 (deep voice, overdeveloped body), strong suspicion was cast on the validity of Ender's accomplishments.
