Uleybury
Uleybury is a rural locality near Adelaide, South Australia. It is located at the eastern side of the City of Playford local government area, just north of One Tree Hill along Gawler-One Tree Hill Road. History A weaver named Moses Bendle Garlick (c. 1784–1859) migrated with his family to South Australia in 1837 on the ship ''Katherine Stewart Forbes''. He settled first at North Adelaide, where he was in business as a builder until at least 1848. He then took up land at Munno Para East, naming it Uley, after his native village Uley in Gloucestershire, England, and there built a home which the family occupied from around 1850. His eldest son, the architect Daniel Garlick, opened a practice in nearby Gawler. Moses was a devout Baptist and lay preacher, and donated to the Church an acre of land where in 1851 he built the Uley Chapel at a cost of £400. Electoral District Of King (South Australia)
King is a single-member electoral district for the South Australian House of Assembly. It was created by the redistribution conducted in 2016, and was contested for the first time at the 2018 state election. King is named after Len King , a former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of South Australia and Attorney-General in the Dunstan government. The Electoral District Boundaries Commission considered that it had renamed the electoral district of Napier to King, but only 1479 of the estimated 27,002 voters in King had previously been voters in Napier from the rural areas of Bibaringa, One Tree Hill, Uleybury, Yattalunga. The majority of voters in King came from Wright in the suburbs of Golden Grove, Greenwith, Salisbury East and from Little Para in the suburbs of Gould Creek, Hillbank, Salisbury Heights, Salisbury Park. One Tree Hill, South Australia
One Tree Hill is a town on the outskirts of Adelaide, South Australia. It is located in the City of Playford. History The town takes its name from the 'One Tree Hill Inn' (licensed in 1851), for many years the meeting place of the District Council of Munno Para East. The inn's name, in turn, referred to a giant red gum tree which stood on the intersection of Black Top Road and Walters Road. The tree burnt down in 1890 and was cut down in 1934 and replaced with 5 trees which can still be seen today. Aboriginal history The Kaurna people were the indigenous inhabitants of the Adelaide region, which includes One Tree Hill. The Peramangk people, living further inland, visited the area from time to time, chiefly in the warmer parts of the year. This was due to the area being cooler and better watered than the plains. The District Council of Munno Para East was a local government area of South Australia from 1853 to 1958, seated at Uleybury. History The District Council of Munno Para East was Proclaimed by Governor Sir Henry Young on 10 November 1853 to govern the eastern half of the cadastral Hundred of Munno Para following a Memorial in September 1853 from 87 owners and occupiers of land in the eastern portion of Munno Para Hundred, praying that that portion of the Hundred lying east of the Great North road, and containing about 50 square miles, be constituted a District; and that James Umpherston, James Adamson, Daniel Garlick, William Kelly, and Phillip Butler be the first District Council. Craigmore, South Australia
Craigmore is a large suburb north of Adelaide, South Australia. It is in the City of Playford local government area, just east of Elizabeth and south of Gawler. History Craigmore is within the traditional territory of the Aboriginal Kaurna people of the Adelaide Plains. European settlement in the area began in early 1850s and the wider district was known as Smithfield based upon the Township established by John Smith. Blair Farm was established by Gavin Scoular on land north of what is now Uley Road and East of Adams Road. Through a series of land purchases from 1853 to 1867 Scoular had built up his land holding to a total of 577 acres. Evanston South is a northern suburb of Adelaide, South Australia in the Town of Gawler. It is on the eastern side of Main North Road on the southern side of Gawler. The southern part of Evanston South includes the Gawler Gate Tourist Park, formerly known as Dalkeith Caravan Park, at 3134 Main North Road. The northern part of Evanston South contains Trinity College, Gawler, a residential housing estate developed in the 2010s, and vacant land zoned for future residential development. Blakeview, South Australia
Blakeview is a northern suburb of Adelaide, South Australia. It is located in the City of Playford. Blakeview is predominantly a residential suburb, but also has two commercial areas and two education areas. Geography Blakeview is located to the northeast of Elizabeth and lies on the east side of Main North Road opposite Smithfield and Munno Para. There is a commercial area facing Main North Road in the oldest part of the suburb which includes a Coles Express service station and medical services. The Blakes Crossing subdivision north of Craigmore Road also has a commercial area, which includes Woolworths and Aldi supermarkets. Daniel Garlick
Daniel Garlick (20 January 1818 – 28 September 1902) was an architect in the early days of South Australia. During his lifetime, his architectural practice names were Garlick & Son and Jackman & Garlick. After his death his name was perpetuated by two rival firms: Garlick & Sibley and then Garlick, Sibley & Wooldridge; and Garlick & Jackman and then Garlick, Jackman & Gooden (until around 1950, when this firm became Jackman, Gooden & Scott). City Of Playford
The City of Playford is a local government area of South Australia in Adelaide's northern suburbs. It was named in recognition of Sir Thomas Playford, who played a part in the development of the area, and was South Australia's premier from 1938–1965. The city covers an area of , and is home to over 90,000 residents. Playford was the fastest growing local government area in South Australia in the 2010s. Uley
Uley is a village and civil parish in the county of Gloucestershire, England. The parish includes the hamlets of Elcombe and Shadwell and Bencombe, all to the south of the village of Uley, and the hamlet of Crawley to the north. The village is situated in a wooded valley in the Cotswold escarpment, on the B4066 road between Dursley and Stroud. The population of the civil parish is around 1,100, but was much greater during the early years of the industrial revolution, when the village was renowned for producing blue cloth. The placename (recorded as ''Euuelege'' in the Domesday Book) probably signifies 'clearing in a yew wood'. Yattalunga is a northern suburb of Adelaide, South Australia. It is the eastern in the City of Playford. Yattalunga is east of One Tree Hill, between the Gawler–One Tree Hill Road and the South Para River. The road runs near the top of the ridge separating the South Para River gorge from the Adelaide Plains. The eastern part of Yattalunga includes most of the Para Wirra Recreation Park.
