Ukraine National Speedway Team
The Ukraine national speedway team are one of the nations who compete in international motorcycle speedway. History As the Soviet Union The Soviet Union speedway team (which consisted predominantly of Russian riders but also Ukrainian, Latvian and Belarus riders) first competed in the 1961 edition of the Speedway World Team Cup, where they finished second in the East European round. Throughout the history of World Team Cup, the team were regular World Cup contenders from 1961 until their final World Cup in 1983. They reached the final on 12 occasions, winning the silver medal five times, in 1964, 1966, 1971, 1972, 1975 and the bronze medals three times, in 1967, 1969 and 1973. Motorcycle Speedway
Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four clockwise, anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of soil, dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). Competitors use this surface to slide their machines sideways, powersliding or broadsiding into the bends. On the straight sections of the track, the motorcycles reach speeds of up to . Vladimir Trofimov
Vladimir Trofimov (born 28 January 1962) is a former international motorcycle speedway rider from the Soviet Union and later Ukraine. He was the champion of the Soviet Union in 1988 and represented both the Soviet Union and Ukraine national teams. Speedway career Trofimov was born in Leningrad, Soviet Union and pursued a career in speedway because his father Viktor Trofimov was an international rider. It was during the late 1960s that his father began riding in Ukraine for the Rivne Speedway team who competed in Soviet team championship. Based in Ukraine, Vladimir also began riding for the team in 1980 and continued to ride for them up to the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Following the dissolution the family remained in Ukraine and Vladimir represented the Ukraine national speedway team. Igor Marko - 1st - 13pts
Igor Marko (1965–2006) was an international speedway rider from the Soviet Union and Ukraine. He rode under the Soviet Union flag until the Dissolution of the Soviet Union. Speedway career Marko competed in Britain during 1986 in the Telford ice international, he was the European junior champion at the time. Marko won the gold medal at the Individual Speedway Junior European Championship in the 1986 Individual Speedway Junior European Championship. He toured the United Kingdom in 1990 as part of the Russia national team. Speedway Grand Prix
Speedway Grand Prix are a series of stand-alone motorcycle speedway events over the course of a season used to determine the Speedway World Champion. The series started in 1995 replacing the previous format of a single event final. The first winner was Hans Nielsen of Denmark. Event format The format for a Grand Prix changed for the 2007 season onwards. Sixteen riders take part in each Grand Prix and over the course of twenty heats each rider will race against every other rider once. The top eight scorers advance to a semi-final and from each semi-final the 1st and 2nd placed riders will advance to the GP final. In this format all rides counted towards Grand Prix points totals, including the semi-final and final, the maximum points for a single GP is 21 (5x heat wins, semi final win and final win). Aleksandr Loktaev
Aleksandr Dmitrievich Loktaev or Oleksandr Lokatev (, born 10 January 1994) is a motorcycle speedway rider from Ukraine. Career Loktaev first rode in Poland for Falubaz Zielona Góra in the 2010 Polish speedway season. In 2010, he qualified for the 2010 Individual Speedway Junior World Championship Semi-Final One but one week before the Semi-Final, Loktaev was injured in a Danish Speedway League match between Holstebro and Vojens. He was replaced by track reserve Simon Nielsen. In 2011, he represented Ukraine national speedway team during the 2011 Speedway World Cup Qualification and then competed in two more World Cups in 2012 and 2013. He was also part of Ukraine team that returned to the international stage to compete in the 2018 Speedway of Nations and has since ridden in the 2021 Speedway of Nations. Andriy Karpov
Andriy Karpov (born 16 January 1987) also spelt Andriej Karpov is a motorcycle speedway rider from Ukraine. Career Karpov came to prominence when competing the Polish leagues, initially for the Ukrainian teams in Polish Speedway Second League but then in the Ekstraliga for Rzeszów in 2006. It was during 2006 that he won a silver medal at the European Individual Speedway Junior Championship. He quickly gained full international caps for the Ukraine national speedway team and represented them in the European Pairs Speedway Championship. Karpov reached the final of the 2008 Speedway Under-21 World Championship and started competing in the Individual European Championship, where he won a silver medal at the 2009 Individual Speedway European Championship. He won further medals by winning bronze in 2010 and 2012. 1961 Speedway World Team Cup was the second edition of the FIM Speedway World Team Cup to determine the team world champions. The final took place in Wrocław, Poland. Speedway Of Nations
The Speedway of Nations is a motorcycle speedway event for national teams, held each year in a different country. The first edition of the competition in the current format took place in 2018. It was the first time an official FIM international pairs competition was staged since the World Pairs Championship ceased in 1993. Great Britain are the current champions after winning in 2024. The Speedway of Nations was not held in 2023 due to the return of the Speedway World Cup, but returned to the speedway calendar in 2024 and 2025. Format Each meeting is staged between seven national teams, with each national team represented by two riders. A third rider, who must be aged 21 years or under, acts as a reserve and can be used at any time. Each pairing rides against each other once. Speedway World Cup
The Speedway World Cup is a motorcycle speedway event for national teams held in different countries. The first edition of the competition in the current format was held in 2001 and replaced the old Speedway World Team Cup, World Team Cup which ran from 1960 until 2000. The competition was held annually until 2017 when it was replaced by the Speedway of Nations pairs event. The Speedway World Cup returned in 2023 and will be held every three years.
