Ueli Maurer
Ulrich "Ueli" Maurer (; born 1 December 1950) is a Swiss politician who served as a List of members of the Swiss Federal Council, Member of the Swiss Federal Council from 2009 to 2022. A member of the Swiss People's Party (SVP/UDC), he was President of the Swiss Confederation in 2013 and 2019. Formerly head of the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sports (2009–2015), Maurer has headed the Federal Department of Finance from 2016 to 2022. From 2019 to 2022, he was the longest-serving sitting member of the Federal Council. An accountant by occupation, Maurer chaired the Swiss People's Party from 1996 to 2008. Ueli Prager (1916–2011) was a Swiss businessperson and founder of Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts. Early life and education Prager was raised in Wiesbaden, Germany. He studied economics at Zurich University and had early roles at London's Savoy and Mayfair hotels. Albert Bitzius (4 October 179722 October 1854) was a Swiss novelist, best known by his pen name of Jeremias Gotthelf. Biography Bitzius was born at Murten, where his father was pastor. The Bitzius family had once belonged to the Bernese patriciate, but was known for its craftsmen and pastors since the 17th century. In 1804, the family home was moved to Utzenstorf, a village in the Bernese Emmental. Here young Bitzius grew up, receiving his early education and consorting with the boys of the village, as well as helping his father to cultivate his glebe. In 1812 he went to complete his education at Bern. He was a founding member of the Student Society Zofingia, the second-oldest fraternity in Switzerland (founded in 1819). Ueli Steck
Ueli Steck (; 4 October 1976 – 30 April 2017) was a Swiss rock climber and alpinist. He was the first to climb Annapurna solo via its South Face (though this is disputed by some), and set speed records on the North Face trilogy in the Alps. He won two Piolet d'Or awards, in 2009 and 2014. Having previously summitted Mount Everest, Steck died on 30 April 2017, after a fall during an acclimatizing climb for an attempt on the Hornbein route on the north face of Everest without supplemental oxygen. Climbing career At the age of 17, Steck achieved the 9th difficulty rating ( UIAA) in climbing. As an 18-year-old he climbed the North Face of the Eiger and the Bonatti Pillar in the Mont Blanc massif. In June 2004, he and Stephan Siegrist climbed the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau within 25 hours. Ueli Staub (; 1 January 1934 – 9 April 2012) was a Swiss vibraphonist, journalist and photographer. Staub was the founder of the ''Metronome Quartet'' (later ''Metronome Quintet''), along with Swiss pianist Martin Hugelshofer, whom were both graduate students at the time. Life Staub was a self-taught vibraphonist. He founded the ''Metronome Quartet'' with Martin Hugelshofer (born 13 July 1933 in Zürich) in 1953, which he played internationally from 1979 to 2001. Ueli Schibler (born June 16, 1947) is a Swiss biologist, chronobiologist and a professor at the University of Geneva. His research has contributed significantly to the field of chronobiology and the understanding of circadian clocks in the body.
