U Myint
U Myint () is a Burmese economist and served as the Chief Presidential Adviser to Thein Sein, the former President of Burma, and led his Economic Advisory Unit. Career U Myint comes from a well-connected and prominent family. He attended Rangoon University where he received a multiple Bachelor degrees in English, politics, and economics, before moving onto Cornell University, where he earned a master's degree in economics. He then earned a Ph.D in economics at the University of California, Berkeley. U Myint was previously a professor of economics at Rangoon University's Institute of Economics, and also served as the director of Ministry of Foreign Affairs' economics department. He later led the Research Department at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific. U Myint currently presides as the director of the Yangon-based Tun Foundation Bank. The president of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar () is the head of state and constitutional head of government of Myanmar. The president chairs the National Defence and Security Council and normally leads the Cabinet of Myanmar, the executive branch of the Burmese government, though the military prime minister leads the cabinet under the current state of emergency. Acting President Min Aung Hlaing, the head of the military and prime minister since 2021, is the current holder since Acting President Myint Swe transferred his powers in July 2024. Tun Foundation Bank
The Tun Foundation Bank () is a privately owned bank in Myanmar that was established on 8 June 1994. All the profits from this bank go into scholarships for children from poor families. Operations As of 2000 the bank was run by Thein Tun, Chairman of MGS Group of Companies. It is involved in social, educational and health projects. In 2000 the bank had recently opened new branches in Bayintnaung and Mandalay. In 2011 Myanmar's financial authorities introduced an online banking network system in six banks, one being the Tun Foundation Bank. The 2011–2015 Myanmar political reforms were a series of political, economic and administrative reforms in Myanmar undertaken by the military-backed government. The University of Yangon (also Yangon University; , ; formerly Rangoon College, University of Rangoon and Rangoon Arts and Sciences University), located in Kamayut, Yangon, is the oldest university in Myanmar's modern education system and the best known university in Myanmar. The university offers mainly undergraduate and postgraduate degrees (Bachelor's, Master's, Post-graduate Diploma, and Doctorate) programs in liberal arts, sciences and law.
