UT Tyler Medical School
The University of Texas at Tyler School of Medicine is a medical school in Tyler, Texas. The UT Tyler School of Medicine is the first medical school in East Texas, the seventh medical school in the University of Texas System, and 16th medical school in the state of Texas. Plans for the school were announced on 6 February 2020 by the UT System. The Board of Regents granted approval on 27 February 2020. The school is intended to help increase access to healthcare in the East Texas region. The school enrolled its first class of 40 students on July 1, 2023. The University of Texas at Tyler (UT Tyler) is a public university, public research university in Tyler, Texas, United States. Founded in 1971, it is a part of the University of Texas System. UT Health East Texas
UT Health East Texas (UTHET) is a for-profit hospital system based in Tyler, Texas founded February 2018. The system is jointly-owned by the University of Texas System (30%) and Ardent Health Services (70%), and was formed following a merger of the East Texas Medical Center and the University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler. The hospital system's legal name is "Tyler Regional Hospital, LLC". which operates under the doing-business-as name of "UT Health Tyler", after purchasing the naming rights of the University of Texas system in the merger. East Texas is a broadly defined cultural, geographic, and ecological region in the eastern part of the U.S. state of Texas that consists of approximately 38 counties.
