US VI Corps
The VI Corps was activated as VI Army Corps in August 1918 at Neufchâteau, France, serving in the Lorraine Campaign. Constituted in the Organized Reserves in 1921, it was allotted to the Regular Army in 1933 and activated on 1 August 1940 at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. VI Corps took part in some of the most high-profile operations in World War II. By war's end it was part of the Seventh Army of the 6th Army Group. Omar Bundy
Major general (United States), Major General Omar Bundy (June 17, 1861 – January 20, 1940) was a career United States Army officer who was a veteran of the American Indian Wars, Spanish–American War, Philippine–American War, Pancho Villa Expedition, and World War I. A native of New Castle, Indiana, Bundy graduated from the United States Military Academy, West Point in 1883 and began his career as a second lieutenant of Infantry. After service on the U.S. western frontier and in the American Indian Wars, Bundy took part in Spanish–American War combat in Cuba as a participant in the Battle of El Caney, for which he received the Silver Star. Ladislas Faragó (21 September 1906 – 15 October 1980) was a military historian, journalist, and author best known for his best-selling books on history and espionage, particularly focusing on World War II. Born in Hungary, he later worked extensively in the United States, including serving as an intelligence analyst for the U.S. Navy during World War II. Sheridan Reserve Center
The Philip H. Sheridan Reserve Center is the former Fort Sheridan now in Lake Forest, Highwood, and Highland Park in Lake County, Illinois, United States. It was originally established as a United States Army Post named after Civil War Cavalry General Philip Sheridan, to honor his services to Chicago. When the main fort was officially closed by the Army on May 3, 1993, the majority of the property was sold by the Department of Defense to commercial land developers. Most of the original housing structures were then refurbished and resold as a residential community. Other buildings were given to cultural organizations like Midwest Young Artists, the largest youth music program in the Midwest. Approximately of the southern end of the original post were retained by the Army; there the Army now operates the Sheridan Reserve Center complex. The 6th Infantry Division was an infantry division of the United States Army active in World War I, World War II, and the last years of the Cold War. Known as "Red Star", it was previously called the "Sight Seein' Sixth". When it was suspected that the division may deploy to Vietnam, it was given the derogatory nickname of the “Commie Jew Division”. Sixth Corps Area was a Corps area, effectively a military district, of the United States Army from 1921 to the 1940s.
