US Open (darts)
The US Open was a United States darts tournament, organised by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC), which launched in May 2007. It replaced the World Series of Darts which ran for one year and was cancelled as a result of poor television ratings on ESPN. In 2007 and 2008 the tournament was held at the Mohegan Sun Casino Resort in Connecticut – which was also the venue used for the World Series of Darts. The tournament moved to Atlanta, Georgia for the 2009 event. In 2009 and 2010 the event became Players Championship events as part of the PDC Pro Tour. Phil Taylor won the first two events, but opted not to take part in the 2009 version which Dennis Priestley won. Taylor came back in 2010 and beat Denis Ovens in the final. Challenge TV
Challenge is a British free-to-air television channel owned by Sky Group's Sky UK subsidiary, themselves owned by American conglomerate Comcast. The channel is dedicated to game shows from the UK, including acquired classic and contemporary shows. Challenge is currently available on terrestrial television and FAST platforms, such as Samsung TV Plus, along with sister channel Sky Mix. Andy Hamilton (darts Player)
Andrew Hamilton (born 16 March 1967), nicknamed The Hammer, is an English former professional darts player who competes in World Seniors Darts events. Hamilton formerly competed in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events, finishing as runner-up in three majors: the 2012 PDC World Championship, 2007 Grand Slam and 2013 UK Open. Career Early career Hamilton started playing darts at the age of 14 with his father Jim and brother Darren. By the age of 18, Hamilton was playing county level darts for Cheshire. However, he did not feel confident enough to pursue a career at the higher level and stopped playing competitive darts for 20 years. 2004–2007 Hamilton made his television debut at the 2004 UK Open but was eliminated in the first round 5–2 by Eddie Lovely. Colin Edward Lloyd (born 7 August 1973), nicknamed Jaws, is an English former professional darts player. He formerly competed in Professional Darts Corporation events, where he was ranked world number one from April 2005 to January 2007 (except for March–May 2006). He won two major televised titles – the 2004 World Grand Prix and the 2005 World Matchplay. 2008 US Open (darts)
The 2008 US Open is the second year of a darts tournament, organized by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). It was played at the Mohegan Sun Casino Resort, Connecticut, USA between May 16 and May 18, 2008. Phil Taylor successfully defended his title. Television coverage and format The event was broadcast on Nuts TV in the UK from the last 16 onwards. The tournament was open to PDPA members and citizens and Green Card holders from the US and Canada. The elimination tournament was played down to the last 16 on the Friday and the last 16 played off on Saturday. The quarter-finals onwards took place on Sunday. In addition, the PDC also staged the $50,000 North American Darts Championship on the 16th and 17 May. Raymond van Barneveld (born 20 April 1967) is a Dutch professional darts player who competes in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events, where he was ranked world number one from January 2008 to June 2008. Nuts TV was a British television channel related to ''Nuts (magazine), Nuts'' magazine. Nuts TV began broadcasting on Freeview (UK), Freeview channel 42 on 12 September 2007 nightly from 9pm to 1am, and launched on Sky Digital (UK & Ireland), Sky Digital on 21 January 2008 until it’s closure on 14 January 2009. A 1-hour timeshift channel, Nuts TV +1 launched on 20 October 2008. Nuts TV was launched by the magazine's owner IPC Media and Turner Broadcasting, which are both parts of the Time Warner media empire.
