USS Specter (AM-306)
USS ''Specter'' (AM-306) was an built for the United States Navy during World War II. She was originally ordered, laid down, and launched as USS ''Spector'' (AM-306), but was renamed the correctly spelled ''Specter'' in March 1944. She was awarded four battle stars for service in the Pacific during World War II. She was decommissioned in 1946 and placed in reserve. While she remained in reserve, ''Specter'' was reclassified as MSF-306 in February 1955 but never reactivated. In April 1973, she was sold to the Mexican Navy and renamed ARM ''DM-04''. In 1994 she was renamed ARM ''General Manuel E. Rincón'' (C52). She was stricken in July 2001, but her ultimate fate is not reported in secondary sources. Associated Shipbuilders
Puget Sound Bridge and Dredging Company was a major shipbuilding and construction company, located in Seattle, Washington, on the southwestern corner of Harbor Island, an artificial island in Elliott Bay. The Bridge and Dredging Company created the island, completing its construction in 1909. It established itself in 1898 and engaged in construction projects around the United States and shipbuilding for the U.S. Navy during and after World War II. During the war it also operated under the name Associated Shipbuilders in a joint venture with the nearby Lake Union Dry Dock Company. In 1959 Lockheed purchased the shipyard and it became the Lockheed Shipbuilding and Construction Company. The Yard was permanently closed in 1987. Shakedown cruise is a nautical term in which the performance of a ship is tested. Generally, shakedown cruises are performed before a ship enters service or after major changes such as a crew change, repair, refit or overhaul. The shakedown cruise simulates working conditions for the vessel, for various reasons.
