USS Proton
USS ''Proton'' (AG-147/AKS-28) -- also known as USS ''LST-1078'' – was an launched by the U.S. Navy during the final months of World War II. Atomic Nuclei
The atomic nucleus is the small, dense region consisting of protons and neutrons at the center of an atom, discovered in 1911 by Ernest Rutherford at the University of Manchester based on the 1909 Geiger–Marsden gold foil experiment. The United States Navy maintains a number of its ships as part of a reserve fleet, often called the "Mothball Fleet".
