USS Lafayette
Three ships in the United States Navy have been named USS ''Lafayette'' for Marquis de Lafayette. *, was built in 1848 as ''Aleck Scott'', and purchased by the US Navy on 18 May 1862 and renamed ''Lafayette'' on 8 September 1862. Marquis De Lafayette
Marie-Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier de La Fayette, Marquis de La Fayette (; 6 September 1757 – 20 May 1834), known in the United States as Lafayette (), was a French military officer and politician who volunteered to join the Continental Army, led by General George Washington, in the American Revolutionary War. Lafayette was ultimately permitted to command Continental Army troops in the decisive Siege of Yorktown in 1781, the Revolutionary War's final major battle, which secured American independence. After returning to France, Lafayette became a key figure in the French Revolution of 1789 and the July Revolution of 1830 and continues to be celebrated as a hero in both France and the United States. Lafayette was born into a wealthy land-owning family in Chavaniac in the province of Auvergne in south-central France. Constellation-class Frigate
The ''Constellation'' is a class of multi-mission guided-missile frigates of the United States Navy based on the European multipurpose frigate or FREMM, in service with the Italian and French navies. ''Constellation'' follows the modular but problematic littoral combat ships of the ''Freedom'' and ''Independence'' classes. The U.S. Navy announced the FFG(X) frigate project in the United States Department of Defense's Request For Information (RFI) in July 2017. The Navy selected five shipbuilders to present their ideas for a prospective design for the proposed twenty FFG(X) guided-missile frigates. In April 2020, the Navy announced that Fincantieri Marinette Marine had won the contract with a modified design based on the FREMM, designed by Naval Group and Fincantieri. The project was later renamed FFG-62 program after the lead ship of her class. Development The U.S. Navy procured the first FFG 62 in FY2020.
