USS Arenac
USS ''Arenac'' (APA-128) was a in service with the United States Navy from 1945 to 1946. She was scrapped in 1974. History ''Arenac'' was of the VC2-S-AP5 Victory ship design type and was named for Arenac County, Michigan. She was laid down under a Maritime Commission contract (MCV hull 44) on 9 July 1944 at Wilmington, California, by the California Shipbuilding Corporation; launched on 14 September 1944; sponsored by Mrs. L.D. Worsham; delivered to the Moore Dry Dock Company, Oakland, California, on 24 September 1944 for completion; acquired by the U.S. Navy and placed in commission, 8 January 1945. After shakedown and amphibious training exercises off San Diego, California, ''Arenac'' took on a load of cargo and departed for Hawaii. Arenac County ( ) is a county located in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 15,002. The county seat is Standish. History Arenac County was organized in 1883. The name ''Arenac'', coined by Henry Rowe Schoolcraft, US Indian Agent and ethnologist, is a derivation of the Latin ''arena'' and the Native American ''ac''. The combined words mean “A sandy place for a good footing.” The county includes some off-reservation trust lands held by the federal government for the federally recognized Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Nation, which is based in Isabella County. In early 2007, plans were confirmed for a casino to be constructed outside of the city of Standish with a scheduled opening by the end of the year. Ulithi ( yap, Wulthiy, , or ) is an atoll in the Caroline Islands of the western Pacific Ocean, about east of Yap. Overview Ulithi consists of 40 islets totaling , surrounding a lagoon about long and up to wide—at one of the largest in the world. Hagushi bay is located in Yomitan, Okinawa. The bay is at the mouth of Hija River. The north side of the mouth of the river has a public beach called Toguchi Beach. World War II Hagushi bay was the primary unloading point for American supplies during the invasion of Okinawa during World War II.
