USS ''Arctic'' (AF-7) was an ''Arctic''-class stores ship acquired by the United States Navy shortly after World War I, which saw extensive service in World War II. She served in the Pacific Ocean, delivering food and household items to ships and bases. Early career ''Yamhill'' – a steel-hulled, single-screw freighter completed in 1919 at Oakland, California, by the Moore Shipbuilding Co. under a United States Shipping Board contract – was acquired by the navy from the Shipping Board on 4 November 1921 for use as a store ship. United States Pacific Fleet
The United States Pacific Fleet (USPACFLT) is a theater-level component command of the United States Navy, located in the Pacific Ocean. It provides naval forces to the Indo-Pacific Command. Fleet headquarters is at Joint Base Pearl Harbor–Hickam, Hawaii, with large secondary facilities at Naval Air Station North Island, California. Mare Island Navy Yard
The Mare Island Naval Shipyard (MINSY) was the first United States Navy base established on the Pacific Ocean. It is located northeast of San Francisco in Vallejo, California. The Napa River goes through the Mare Island Strait and separates the peninsula shipyard ( Mare Island, California) from the main portion of the city of Vallejo.
