USCGC General Greene (WPC-140)
USCGC ''General Greene'' (WPC/WSC/WMEC-140), was a United States Coast Guard , in commission from 1927 to 1968 and the fourth cutter to bear the name of the famous Revolutionary War general, Nathanael Greene. She served during the Rum Patrol, World War II and into the 1960s performing defense, law enforcement, ice patrol, and search and rescue missions. Construction and commissioning The ''General Greene'' was built by the Brown, Boveri & Cie, American Brown Boveri Electric Corp. of Camden, New Jersey, at a cost of $90,000. Major general (United States), Major General Nathanael Greene (August 7, 1742 – June 19, 1786) was an American military officer and planter who served in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War, Revolutionary War. He emerged from the war with a reputation as one of George Washington's most talented and dependable officers and is known for his successful command in the Southern theater of the American Revolutionary War, Southern theater of the conflict.
